GAETC 2018 Conference Round Up
Resources you can use tomorrow!
GAETC 2018
The Georgia Ed Tech Conference is a project the Georgia Educational Technology Consortium. It's held every November. The goal of the conference is to share the latest and greatest technological resources for the classroom. It emphasizes technology as a tool for school improvement. The resources shared below are just a few of the ones that I found interesting. To see what others across the state found interesting, check out the conference website or search social media for #GAETC18.
Flippity & Google Sheets
Flippity.net says that they help you "easily turn Google Spreadsheets into cool stuff". This is an understatement! You can create flashcards, Jeopardy games, random name pickers, and more in just seconds. You can create interactive timelines even make your own "badges" for your students to help your students "level up their learning". This is one of those resources you'll wonder how you ever did without it!
Google Forms Awesomeness
Think you know how to use Google Forms? Do you know how to set rules for responses (like number of characters or specific words)? Want to upload a Google Form to Google Classroom but don't want your students to be able to start the form until you're ready? Want to include a buzzer function for your quiz game? If you don't know how to do any of these, you need to check out this info from Tony Vincent
Getting More From Google Slides
Tired of the same old Google Slide presentations from your students? Check out this presentation on how to use Google Slides in ways you never dreamed of! Stop-action animation? Infographics? Bumper stickers? Yep!
Using Google Drawings for ALL THE THINGS!
Tony Vincent shared a collection of ideas about using Google Drawing for almost every subject area. Everything from using Google Drawing as a virtual whiteboard to using it to create interactive images to creating labeling activities for students. The activities listed in this document have been shared by teachers who use Google Drawing in their classroom with students of all grade levels. Your students will love it!
VR Made Easy
Virtual reality has finally dropped in price enough to be a viable classroom technology option. VR is a great resource for engaging students in virtual field trips to explore places they may never see...like Mars! This presentation from Nadia Williams in Cobb County breaks down the options and resources available to make VR a reality in your classroom.
Driveslides
Driveslides is a Google Add-on that lets you easily convert a folder full of photos into Google Slideshow. Just a couple of clicks and you've turned your pictures into a slideshow that's ready for sharing. Activities like a field trip or school activity can be shared quickly in a way that your students and parents will love.
Ideas for Makerspaces- Bringing Your Makerspace Out of the Box
The folks at Kennesaw State University's iTeach initiative shared some innovative ideas for bringing Makerspaces ( and Makerspace thinking) into your classroom. Easy to implement and a great way to bring critical thinking and communication activities to any classroom. Cardboard challenges, "pocket sized contests", and more.
Turn Your Classroom into a Video Game
Gamification has been around for a while. Apps like Waze and Weight Watchers encourage participation through the use of levels and badges. You can send your students on a learning adventure using Google Forms and a few other resources. Pam Pettyjohn from Whitfield County shared this great presentation. Check it out!
