The Counselor Crow's Nest

Allatoona High School's December 2020 Newsletter

Allatoona Family,

2020 is finally coming to an end. However, there are still a few things we want to remind you of before we take a much needed and well deserved break! This year has been unique and full of changes, so we appreciate you being patient as we navigate through it together.

We hope you have a great break and thank you so much for everything you do for our school and community! Let's end this semester on a good note!

Finals are quickly approaching! See below for a final exam schedule!

Big picture

Georgia Tech invites you to the annual Student's Exploring Engineering (SEE)

SEE offers female high school freshmen and sophomores the opportunity to explore the possibilities of engineering. The day consists of an introduction of the various engineering disciplines, college application guidance from an admissions counselor, and an interactive activity with Texas Instruments.

Due to COVID-19, this year's event will be held virtually. Please click on the file below for more details and how to register.

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship *Click here*

The Jackie Robinson Foundation provides 4 year scholarships of $30,000 and extensive support services, including career guidance and internship placement, to highly motivated African American students who have maintained a 98% college graduation rate

Attention students interested in taking mock ACT or SAT

See the links below for information on how to sign up for a mock ACT and/or SAT (Note – Applerouth charges a $20 fee for these tests).

SAT Test Prep Opportunity!

SAT Prep Class Registration Now Open

With a vaccine on the horizon, it's expected colleges will soon return to their reliance on standardized testing in the admissions process. With 2020's challenges, students may need more support than ever to be successful.

Coaching and classes to prepare for the SAT can be expensive. Prep Scholar estimates the average at more than $1000 per course. For almost a decade, PTSA has partnered with Allatoona faculty to offer SAT prep classes at a fraction of the cost, $175 for PTSA members, $200 for non-members. Fees include two 1.5 hour classes per week for four weeks, an SAT prep book, culminating with a full-length practice test.

Class size is limited to provide as much individual instruction as possible. Our spring semester session will again be offered online only, Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 - 6pm, beginning Februrary 1st. (No classes held during Winter Break.)

These classes will fill very quickly. While juniors and seniors will have priority, all students are eligible to enroll at www.ptsaahs.com.
