November Pre-K News
November 11-15, 2013
What's New This Week:
This week we have continued to focus on community helpers and Fall activities. For content small groups we have worked on measuring ourselves, talking about community helpers, cutting with scissors, sorting and graphing, comparing numbers and shapes. For literacy small groups we have been working on small group reading and recognizing words, creating a turkey with the letters of our name, talking about food for Thanksgiving and writing community helper words.
Our afternoons have been filled with fun! We have been completing whole group activities that build on the student's learning. We have acted out the familiar story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The students loved playing the different parts. We also went outside to create cloud paintings and Fall pictures. Tuesday's fun we were able to act out different community helpers by using materials from our classroom. I think this is becoming the favorite part of the day for the kids!

Cool Weather and Clothing
We will still have an outside time each day during the fall and winter seasons. That also means that cool weather is here and that means lots of jackets, gloves, scarves, etc. PLEASE remember to put your child’s name in ALL of their items of clothing!!! (Also, you may want to send in a warmer change of clothing as well since it is beginning to get a little bit cooler… sometimes accidents happen and we just want to make sure that the students are prepared.)

iPad/iPhone Apps:
Little Writer- The Tracing App for Kids- Little Writer is a tracing app that's done just right. Little Writer is super fun and so easy to use that your kids will think letter tracing is a game vs. a boring chore.
Candy Count-Learn Colors and Numbers-Candy Count provides a fun and interactive way to teach your child colors and numbers.
Sort It Out- Tidying up the nursery has never been more fun. Teach your child about sorting and arranging with this fun, sorting application. This application helps develop conceptualization, visual perception and fine motor skills. With parental assistance it can also develop language skills.
