A Note from Mr. Bender
Thank you to everyone that attended a parent-teacher conference this week. Our teachers enjoyed meeting with parents and sharing student progress. If you did not sign-up for a conference, it’s not too late. Please reach out to your child’s teacher.
We had a great time celebrating Read Across America Week. Thank you to Mrs. Alden and Mrs. Swift for organizing fun dress-up days and Dr. Seuss themed activities. We enjoyed celebrating reading at WMES!

Virtual Twin Rivers Parent Night
Twin Rivers Middle School would like to invite parents of our rising 6th grade students to participate in our Virtual Twin Rivers Parent Night experience on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 6:00 PM.
Your fifth-grade student will visit Twin Rivers Middle School with their elementary schools (Monday, 3/7/22--Freeman’s Mill and Tuesday, 3/8/22--Dyer & Woodward Mill). During their in-person visit students will tour the school, hear student leaders and teachers provide information about our school. Finally, students will listen to a short performance by our Fine Arts Programs: Band, Chorus, and Orchestra.
In order to help us plan effectively for next year and to reserve your child’s place in one of the Fine Arts Band, Chorus, or Orchestra programs, please complete Fine Arts Course Selection letter. The Fine Arts Course Selection letters will be sent home in your child’s Friday Folder. The Fine Arts Selection letter will be returned to your child’s teacher by March 18th. Space may be limited; therefore, priority will be given to students who complete the form on time. These classes are the only Connection classes that 6th grade students may choose. All other Connection classes are randomly assigned.
We are providing you an opportunity to get to know Twin Rivers Middle School in a similar fashion through a Zoom meeting. The link for the Twin Rivers MS Virtual Parent Night can be found below.
We are excited about and looking forward to the start of your child’s Twin Rivers Middle School journey.

Character Trait and Mindfulness Activity of the Month
Every month, we focus on a character trait to instill great character into our cubs. The character trait for the month of March is Cooperation. Cooperation means working together nicely to get a job done. This is such an important skill for students, both in and out of the classroom. As a reminder, teachers will be choosing one student this month who has exhibited cooperation the most to represent his/her class as the Cub of the Month.

2022 Georgia Picture Book Nominee Spotlight
Lift by Minh Le and Dan Santat
Iris loves to push the elevator buttons in her apartment building, but when it's time to share the fun with a new member of the family, she's pretty put out. That is, until the sudden appearance of a mysterious new button opens up entire realms of possibility, places where she can escape and explore on her own. But when she's forced to choose between going at it alone or letting her little brother tag along, Iris finds that sharing a discovery with the people you love can be the most wonderful experience of all.
Reading Rewards
March reading logs are in this week’s Friday folders. I hope you will start reading and logging your March minutes! We look forward to recognizing our February readers very soon!
If you lose your log or find you need a replacement, monthly logs can be downloaded and printed from the media center link of the school website. Look for the Reading Rewards link on the left side of the media center website.
Monthly logs should reflect 20 different dates in the month, with at least 20 total minutes of reading for each date. Incomplete logs will not be accepted. Students can read independently or with their parents at home. After completing the monthly requirement, logs are returned to the homeroom teacher. Parent initials are required in order to verify the reading.
If you have any questions about the Reading Rewards program, refer to the reading rewards link on the media center page of the school website or contact Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org.
