A note from Mrs. Abrams
We read several books this week to learn about Gingerbread.
We had a lot of fun learning about:
The Gingerbread Man
The Gingerbread Boy
The Gingerbread Girl
The Gingerbread Baby
…next week we will be reading a few more Gingerbread Stories too!
Here are some questions you can use to review what we learned at school
1. What was your favorite story?
2. Why did you like it?
3. What was your favorite part of the story?
4. Who were the characters in the stories?
5. How were the stories different?
6. How were the stories alike?
7. Which character is most like you? How? Why?
8. If you were a Gingerbread Person, how would you outsmart the Fox?
9. What was the repeating phrase used by each Gingerbread Character?
As they are "think about our reading" they are learning to:
Visualize - create an image in their mind as they read.
Schema - everything you already know
Schema + new information = New Learning
Infer - use clues in the story to help them understand what's happening
Predict - take clues from the text and make a smart guess about what will happen in the story.
Connect - think about their experiences and what they know to make connections.
I love to watch them "read like a writer" and "write like a reader", because the more you read the better writer you become and the more you write the better reader you become.
When you DO good things...GOOD things happen, and as a Kindergarten teacher life doesn't get much better than this.

Wylie ISD 2017-18 Calendar Release
If you have not seen the updated calendar for next year, it is posted on the district website. There is a survey that you can give feedback regarding changes you would like to see.
For the most part, it is similar to this year's. Some changes that have occurred include:
- School will start August 21, the third Monday of August, opposed to the fourth Monday. The district applied for a waiver to do this.
- Christmas Break starts on a Thursday and ends on a Tuesday, making the break for staff 13 days, opposed to the typical 16 days.
- They added a teacher work day following Christmas Break.
- Spring Break is now aligned with Dallas County and Collin County community colleges. So it is now the 2nd week of March.
Keep those box Tops coming. we are in a competition to see which class can bring in the most
