Communication
AP Exams
Per College Board's recent communications, learners can cancel their AP exam if without penalty if they do not want to take advantage of the modified AP exam. To do this, the learner will need to email Ms. Batik stating which exams they are wanting to cancel. Since you paid through school pay there will be some lag between when you cancel and when we are able to process your refund check.
Video chats
Got a great Question from a learner about video chats: the Answer is, they are not required but are so we can connect with you (like video networkings or class convos) and answer your questions (like office hours and tutorials). We miss you and can’t wait to chat! You will need to complete this form so we can do networking video chats!
Here was the info the district sent out about this:
Starting Monday March 30, we will be integrating live video chats as well as recorded video chats as a part of our curriculum delivery. We will still have resources and lessons linked on Schoology PK-12 and Echo - New Tech, as well as videos published by educators. We will be adding this function to help support learning in a variety of ways. We thank you for your patience in allowing this feature, as we wanted to ensure our processes are being implemented with fidelity, while focusing on safety and equity for all CISD students.
Some of you may be asking, what does it mean to have a video chat with an educator?
Here are some ways that we can use video chats within our instruction:
- Educators can teach the class in one virtual location and have learners respond verbally.
- Educators can teach a small group lesson and gather more specific feedback.
- Educators can work with learners and their parents on a specific question or strategy.
- Educators can provide specialized services in accordance with IEPs, 504 Supports, English Language Supports, Dyslexia Supports, etc.
We want to provide you with the opportunity to read the following information for video chats to begin next week. It is very important that before we begin using video chats with your child/children that we know you have read, understood, and agree to follow the guidelines and expectations presented. You will be asked to complete this Google Form (available in English and Spanish) to provide your consent.
Please visit go.coppellisd.com/VideoChatExpectationEnglish or go.coppellisd.com/VideoExpectationsSpanish for Video Chat Expectations for our students and families.
You must complete the Google Form at go.coppellisd.com/VideoChatConsent to allow your child to participate in video chat instruction.
Community Service Hours
Junior Job Shadowing and Internship
We have been getting some questions on the status of job shadowing and internship for this school year. Since we are more than halfway through the year, the standard will be that you have 5 hours from this school year and 15 hours for next school year. Some examples:
- A junior who already did 10 hours will only owe 10 hours next year
- A junior who did 5 hours will only owe the 15 for next year
- A junior who did not complete hours will owe 20 for next year
Please reach out to Batik with questions if you have them. Thank you!
Mr. Kennington's Dual Credit Email (text below)
If you are considering dual credit or would like some more information about dual credit, then please read through this e-mail and the attached information.
Dual credit is a partnership between CISD and The Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) that allows high school learners the opportunity to take college courses tuition free to earn both high school and college credit. It is a great opportunity for learners that may be ready to take on the increased expectations and rigor that come with college level coursework.
If you are interested in dual credit and think you may want to take classes this Summer or in the Fall of 2020, then please continue with the following instructions:
- Review the attached Dual credit presentation
- Review and Complete the attached Dual Credit Application Steps (EVERY step must be completed in order to qualify)
If you complete the above steps indicating your intention to participate in dual credit, then you will receive an e-mail sometime next week with your next steps.
UPDATE...If you are currently taking or have already taken a dual credit course, then do not submit the application or set up an eConnect account again as you will already have those done. Just go into the Google Form at the end of the application steps document and submit your information.
Please e-mail me with any questions.
Thank You,
Michael Kennington

STAAR EOC Exams
NHS Application ********Updated Info
NTH@C Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors,
We have made a few changes to National Honor Society Applications. The updates are below:
- The due date has been moved to Friday, April 3rd at 4:10 pm.
- Instead of submitting printed applications to Mr. Greenwalt’s room, you will need to email a PDF of your application to Mr. Greenwalt. Remember: no late applications will be accepted. Please make sure you email a PDF, not a Google Document.
- For the “Character References” section of the application, please reach out to facilitators through email as needed. If they agree to serve as a character reference, type their name into the blank instead of having them sign it. We will follow up with them as needed upon review of your application.
- Type your essay on the same document below the application. When you email the completed application as a PDF, everything should be on one document.
Please reach out to Mr. Greenwalt if you have any questions, and thank you for being flexible during this time.
Sincerely,
NHS Officer Team
Thank you!
Facilitator Office Hours and General Reminders
Please remember:
- Facilitators can't have one on one direct message conversations with you. Please use the group discussion method they share with you. As always, if you have an individual question, you can use email to communicate with your facilitator.
- Facilitators are navigating this tricky world just like you are. Many of us have children that we are also having to provide school to while we are working. The word for this week and for probably every week like this is: GRACE. Remember we are all doing the best we can and we will do the same for you!
- Remember everything you type or say on video (in the future) can be viewed by anyone and all communication needs to be in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
- Communicate, communicate, communicate. If you run into any issues, please let your facilitator know so they can help you navigate them.
PE, Athletics, and Band
If you have CHS or CHS9 Educators, they will be sharing lessons with you in schoology. Information on how to get into those accounts is in the district resources document below.
