Miss.McGrath's OLG Prep News

Happy May OLG Families,

I cannot believe there are only 8 weeks left of the school year.

May 2nd-May 6th is Catholic Education Week. Each day we will be celebrating a different theme. Please see link below regarding themes and events.

We have a very exciting May planned with awesome key dates, please be sure to check the bottom of this newsletter for them.

Health Grades 1, 5 & 6

Grade 1 students will be finishing up their mini unit on Proper Oral Hygiene and moving into a unit about Personal Safety and Injury Intervention. Students will demonstrate an understanding of essential knowledge and practices for ensuring their personal safety (e.g., knowing their home phone numbers; knowing how to contact 9-1-1; seeking help from a police officer, teacher, elder, or other trusted adult; knowing routines for safe pickup from school or activities). We may have some guest speakers in!

Grade 6 students will continue with their DARE program on Wednesdays.

The grade 5/6 students completed Public Service Announcements regarding the realities of substance abuse, and the short term and long term effects of drinking and smoking using iMovie. The students are learning about assertive, passive, and aggressive behaviours and strategies to say, NO! to peer pressure. The students will finish up their unit on Substance Use/Abuse and move onto prevention and safety in a few short weeks.

From the teachers desk...

Thank you for your continued support.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Feel free to contact me at the school.
