What's Going On In The World Of Saint Paul Catholic School
ATTENTION - 8th GRADE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES
On October 22, 2019 all Saint Paul Catholic School 8th graders will go to Marquette High School in Michigan City to take the 8th grade Assessment required by the Diocese. 8th grade students will report to Saint Paul as usual. A bus from Marquette High School will provide the necessary transportation. Students will receive lunch while on campus and return by the end of the school day. Our office will receive more information on October 1, 2019. However, I wanted to be sure to let students and families know about this important date in October.

8th Grade STEM Class Solves a Problem
The 8th grade teamed up to solve a real problem in our building. We are so excited to have the Pre-K program this year! However, we realized that our building was not designed for such little people. A major design flaw of the Pre-K bathroom is that the sink is about 6" too tall for the students to reach and wash their hands.
Mrs. Czapla, the Pre-K teacher, asked the 8th grade STEM class if they would help solve this dilemma. They enthusiastically jumped on the task and immediately went to work. Students started by designing and planning a platform that would fit neatly under the sink, be tall enough for the students to reach the faucet, be sturdy enough to hold the weight of the students, remain non-slippery when wet, and also meet the very important criteria of being cute enough for a Pre-K classroom (a special request made by Mrs. Czapla herself).
Students decided to make the project using recycled materials and chose to use old pallets as the material for the build. (Thank you Mr. Wagenblast for the donations!) They learned to safely use power tools, work together, and make their designs on paper come to life. They may have also learned the hard way to measure twice and cut once.
Design team one decided to go with a neon splatter paint theme knowing that Mrs. Czapla is a big fan of bright colors. Design team two went with a darker outdoors theme knowing that the classroom is decorated in camping decor. The projects will be sealed and ready to deliver by Tuesday, September 17, 2019 for Mrs. Czapla to choose her favorite design to use in her classroom.
