In Memoriam
Our school is participating in the School Improvement Institute (SI2). SI2 is a project of the Indiana non-profit organization Inspire Success that helps teachers, students, parents, and community members come together to discuss school improvement and develop a data-driven school improvement plan. As a participant in SI2, we will be working through a data-driven improvement process called Vision-to-Action. SI2 also helps us meet state and federal school improvement planning requirements like Public Law 221 (Indiana’s school accountability law) and the Every Student Succeeds Act (a federal school accountability law).
To engage the community in our discussions, we are creating a School Improvement Council consisting of teachers, parents, and representatives of various stakeholder groups in our community. The Council will help with decision making as we move through the Vision-to-Action process. We encourage every person concerned with our young people and committed to raising student achievement to participate in the Council.
JOIN THE COUNCIL
To join our school’s School Improvement Council, please do the following:
1. On any device with a browser and an Internet connection, go to: inspiresuccess.org/joincouncil
2. Enter our school code: 0767
3. Enter your contact information.
Note: Please ensure that email coming from si2@inspiresuccess.org will not be blocked by your email provider’s spam filter.
COUNCIL ROLE
The School Improvement Council will discuss topics related to school improvement including 1) vision for student success in our community, 2) measurable goals, 3) root causes (what interferes with meeting academic goals), and 4) interventions (how we will address the root causes). After each discussion, the School Improvement Steering Team (managers) will use the Council’s input to develop a related component in our School Improvement Plan.
COUNCIL DISCUSSION
SI2 gives us the ability to hold discussions online or in person. Before each discussion, you’ll receive an email. If we’re meeting in person, the email will include the date, time, and location. All emails will include a link to a special page where you will go to watch a video, review student group data (no individual student data), and then participate in an online discussion. You will be able to enter your thoughts and respond to the comments of other Council members. If we hold an in-person meeting that you can’t attend, you can always join the discussion online.
COUNCIL MAKE-UP
To make our discussions rich and our decisions sound, the School Improvement Council is a broad group consisting of teachers, parents, and community stakeholders who will bring many different perspectives to the table. Since our goal is to enable all students to succeed, this is very important.
Thank you for considering serving on our School Improvement Council.

VALUES AND BELIEFS
We believe…
All students can learn at high levels.
Learning can and should be engaging and hands-on.
Students will benefit from cooperative learning, thematic instruction, leveled reading, and integrated instruction across the curriculum.
Student achievement can increase through the use of authentic and self-assessment when it is used to drive instruction.
Students should be exposed to varied technologies.
Students need to gain an understanding of and appreciation for diverse cultures and gain cultural competency.
Students are entitled to a safe, respectful environment.
Effective instruction addresses differences in student learning styles.
Instruction should be challenging for all students, with quality work as the outcome.
Professional development should focus on student learning and be a process of continuous growth.
A love of teaching and concern for children is the primary part of the school climate.
