Tasks for Animal Control
- Capture and remove stray, uncontrolled or abused animals from undesirable conditions, using nets, nooses, or tranquilizer darts as nessesary.
- Train police officers in dog handling and training techniques for tracking, crowd control, and narcotics and bomb detection.
- Organize the adoption of unclaimed animals.
- Euthanize rabid, unclaimed, or severly injured animals.
- Contact animal owners to inform them that their pets are at animal holding facilities.
Working Conditions for Animal Control
- Pet owners lying about their animals being healthy.
- Animals can be dangerous.
- Weather could be very bad when you are called in to go save an animal.
- Owners can get dangerous when you take their animal.
- Sometimes working in an office
Degree/Certificate/Training Necessary
Go to the National Animal Control Academy in Missouri and go through training for two stages in the Academy.
