RTI
Beginning in early/mid October, we will resume our Response to Intervention (RTI) time at Fairview! With our round of Fall assessments wrapping up, we have crunched the data to determine how we will assist students who have a need for further academic assistance or need academic extension/enrichment. Every year, we see a great deal of growth and improvement from our RTI model and we are excited to bring it back again this year Monday-Thursday from 9:05-9:28 AM.

Specialist Updates
From The Gym
Hello Fairview Families!
By now each class has had multiple days of PE and routines are falling into place. We continue to talk about the 2 rules of the gym—be safe and have fun! With all grade levels we’ve been working in stations. Our focus has been jump rope, balance, tossing, hand/eye coordination and teamwork/building. With 3-5 we are moving toward Physical Fitness Measurements. Be sure to ask them what’s been going on!
Please check their A,B,C,D schedule and get those tennis shoes on. If they don’t have them they may not get to participate in all of the day’s activities. There have been some situations where kids have had to sit out.
Finally, if you’ve been in the gym lately you might have noticed the pictures on the bulletin boards. They are of our kiddos in action!! If you wish, send me a photo of your child doing something active and I’ll get it up on the board. You’re welcome to send in a hard copy pic or email me one and I’ll get it up!
As always, thank you for your continued support. Hope to see you at the Fever Fest!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wright
From the Art Room:
Art update:
There has been a lot of creating in ART so far this year! Every class has already had art 5 times and students are getting the routines down. So far, every class has decorated their sketchbook cover, worked on a Non-Objective project and participated in International Dot Day by working together to create giant dot paintings that are on display in the specialist hallway. Please reach out with any questions lrobb@cpsk12.org
From the Media Center
Media Center News
The Media Center is a great place to be! The goal for the year is to help students find books they LOVE! Not every book is for every student, but with over 10,000 books in the media center, we should be able to find books for everyone! We are introducing the latest award books at all levels: Building Block Award for Kindergarten, Show-Me Readers Award for 1st-2nd, Great Kids Can Read for 3rd grade and Mark Twain Readers Award for 4th-5th. Students will be able to vote on their favorites and the winners will be announced in the spring. Since the winners are selected by students, the books that won in past years are great choices for students to read also. We are also getting in lots of new books for the students to enjoy. Thank you for helping your child to take great care of their library books and to return them on or before their library day!

Technology Specials
Technology Specials
We have been busy in the computer lab the last several weeks. Along with working on their keyboarding skills, we have begun to discuss digital citizenship and ways to be responsible when we are using electronic devices. 4th and 5th grades have enjoyed learning how to make QR codes with their iPads. 2nd & 3rd grades have been refreshing their iPad, computer and typing skills, while kindergarten and 1st have been learning the basics of the iPad and how to use new school apps. We are off to a great start!

From the Music Room
We have had a great start to the year in the music room! Students in all grade levels have been singing and moving each and every time they come to music. Grades 1-5 have spent a lot of time playing xylophones while kindergarteners have been learning the basics of our non-pitched percussion instruments. Most grade levels have also been celebrating Hispanic Heritage month through listening and dancing activities. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter @FVEFalconsMusic and check out the music room website found at www.fvemusic.com
Counselor News:
Happy October from the School Counseling team! This month students will finish up lessons on bullying prevention and learn about personal safety. Some classes will also learn some problem solving/conflict resolution skills. For more information about our Counseling program, check out my website: http://counselorhoell.weebly.com/ or feel free to reach out at any time lhoell@cpsk12.org.

From Our Home School Communicator
My name is Tynesha Green, and I am the Home School Communicator at Fairview Elementary and Locust Street Expressive Arts Elementary. My weekly schedule at Fairview includes full days on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday afternoons. Throughout the day, your child might see me in their classrooms, playground, cafeteria, or in the hallways. I am so excited to be at Fairview!
FVE is participating in School Market-- a free program provided by the Food Bank. School Market is a food pantry that provides a wider range of foods and toiletries for children to access. It is not based on free and reduced lunch status or eligibility requirements. Because of this, the program can reach more children who might benefit from extra support.
The aim of School Market is to provide meals and snacks for students at the end of the week. The pantry is placed in an area that provides privacy for students to shop. Each Friday afternoon the pantry can be accessed and will be supervised while students go "shopping." Students are then able to choose the foods they want to take home. This is a new endeavor for our school and district, so I wanted to take a brief moment to explain it to you.
I have encountered many verbal greetings, waves, and hugs from our Fairview Falcons! Should you need anything, the best way to contact me is by email TasGreen@cpsk12.org. Thank you!
