A Note From the Director

This week at ECDC we learned a lot about our community helpers. We also began visiting the atrium for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and enjoyed music and art class.

Please remember if you plan to volunteer at Marquette or ECDC you must complete the VIRTUS requirements. This can be done at anytime by visiting You MUST select Marquette School as your location in order for us to approve you. When asked for your role, you should select "Volunteer." If you have questions about the process, feel free to contact our office. We have detailed instructions that we are happy to share with you. Before attending field trips or helping with activities your VIRTUS account must be active and approved two weeks prior to the event.

Volunteering and VIRTUS

What you need to do:

  • First, VIRTUS Child & Youth Protection Requirements have three components: 1.) the background check submission 2.) adherence to policies, procedures, and ethical standards, and 3.) the child & youth protection education training. Each component needs to be renewed every five years.

  • Registration for First-time Users:
    • Visit
    • Select “First-Time Registrant” to create an online VIRTUS account.
    • Follow the onscreen step-by-step instructions for completing the process. We require all volunteers to start this process no later than two week before the date of volunteering.

  • Update Existing Account:
    • Registered volunteers are encouraged to login at the beginning of every school year to ensure that all personal information is correct. Upon login, your account will prompt you to complete any necessary requirements. Automated emails are sent through VIRTUS approximately one week before they expire. Please ensure that the registered email address is correct.

Holy Smokes Cigar Dinner

A gentleman’s evening on October 7th benefiting the Mark Mandeville Bursar of the Christ the King Education Endowment Fund. Over its 25 year history, the Cigar Dinner has annually brought several hundred men, both from within and from outside the Christ the King community, together in a fun, albeit somewhat smoky atmosphere. In addition to the fun and the many stories for those who have attended regularly, the Cigar Dinner has raised well in excess of $400,000 for the CTK Education Endowment Fund. It has been a success from both a community and financial standpoint and it is hoped that it will continue for years to come.
