Parker School
October 30, 2023
I am so surprised at how fast the first couple of months of the school year are flying by! It seems like yesterday we were welcoming families to Parker for our open house and yet we are in the middle of term one and the calendar will soon turn to November. I remain so proud of the way students are responding to the challenges before them. Keep up the great work!

We are so pleased at Parker to be implementing Open Parachute. This program boosts resilience, increases connection and builds empathy. I’m looking forward to a great evening with Dr. Watson. Literacy Updates
Here at Parker, teachers use many sources to gather information on your child’s reading development, including, but not limited to, our universal screening assessment. We are required to assess students’ early literacy skills in grades K-3 at least twice per year consistent with Massachusetts regulation 603 CMR 28.03(1)(f). Here in Quincy, we use a universal screener three times per year to help us monitor and respond to the progress of all learners. As part of our commitment to help each child becoming a successful reader, we use DIBELS 8th Edition (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) to evaluate your student’s performance on the literacy skills necessary to become a successful reader. We conduct this screening three times per year to measure the progress of your child. These screenings also assist our teachers to target their instruction to meet the needs of your child. Families will receive a report that provides an overview of their child’s results and how we will support your child. Universal screening is another step that helps our students become proficient readers and we are grateful for your partnership and support. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Trunk or Treat
The Parker School PTO Trunk or Treat Harvest Fest was held on October 20th. What a terrific evening! Thank you to so many families who donated trunks and treats! The cars were decorated wonderfully! I know the students had a great time! Thank you to so many families for working so hard to make this event possible. Everyone had a great time!
