EDUCATION AND TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK:
Education Week takes place during the first full week in May. It is an annual event celebrated by school boards and schools across the province. It is a time for students, teachers and parents to celebrate teaching excellence and student achievement. Although we are not in our traditional spaces for learning, we have much to celebrate. Our Lancaster staff have joined teachers across the world in venturing into new approaches to sharing learning with students, using and learning new platforms, and trying to provide the right balance of learning activities that continue to grow the students they care so much about. We give a huge shout out to them for their long hours developing and searching out just the right material to provide for students, their commitment to the profession, and the care and investment in their students and their families. This is a great week to show them your appreciation, a simple note or connection can mean a whole lot. Thank you to parent council members and students for their work and contributions for our appreciation video this week : )
Thank you Lancaster staff, for all you do...and how you do it!!
MENTAL HEALTH WEEK:
The Canadian Mental Health Association has also set aside this week as mental health awareness week. Their website, https://mentalhealthweek.ca/ has many resources that can be useful in helping us recognize where we are with our own mental health and provide insight into measures that may be helpful for ourselves or members of our family. This article talks about children and screen time, particularly addressing the increase that has occurred for many children during this time of remote learning and social distancing.
Limestone has been recognized provincially for our thorough and expansive approach to supporting students and families. We do thank our team at Limestone for helping schools provide supports and get them connected to the resources that are available in our communities. Follow our Mental Health leads on Twitter at LSDB Wellbeing @MentalHlth_LDSB. This week, Maltby Center is offering virtual workshops on topics such as "Parenting your Anxious Child", Building Connections: Youth Groups, and "A Caregiver's Guide to Surviving Covid-19". https://maltbycentre.ca/
A question that has been on the minds of some right now is "Can we get our belongings from the school?". At this time, we are not able to retrieve personal belongings as per Public Health directive. When the Medical Officer of Health informs Boards that they can start to allow families to access schools to collect items, very strict access guidelines will need to be in place that meet the expectations set out by Public Health. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all work together to keep everyone safe and healthy.
As always, please continue to follow LDSB on any or all of these platforms for the most up to date information:

VIRTUAL RUNNING CLUB - MEMBERSHIP OPEN TO ALL!
Lancaster running club members and students eager to join for the first time, were eagerly watching our countdown by the water fountain before we left for March Break. Each day the number got smaller, and more and more pictures of running memories adorned the walls. We knew that after March Break we would lace up our shoes again, brave the sun, the wind and some "cooler" temperatures to rally the team and get moving again. Certainly, the situation is different...but the opportunity is still there. This week, let's start by getting our bodies going again with purpose. Our first challege can be an individual or family one....can you, together, or on your own, get enough kilometers in to run a marathon in the month of May? You can walk, you can run, you can walk/run! Set some goals runners....on your mark, get set, get moving. Watch for more news coming your way!
