Kushagra Bhargava with Alex Lumelsky , President of CT State Chess Association

Kushagra Bhargava, 5th grade student here at Middlebrook, attained the CT State Elementary Chess Champion title at the elementary school level of CT chess tournament held on January 6th at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. It was organized by the CT State Chess Association where chess players in elementary schools across CT participated. He stood first among all the players and became eligible to represent CT in the prestigious 4th Annual John D. Rockefeller III National Tournament of Elementary School State Champions to be held from July 29th - Aug 1st 2023 in Grand Rapids , MI.

Coralie Myers, from Mrs. Russo’s grade 1 class, is a self-published non-fiction writer. She has authored a book about the ocean where she teaches fellow classmates about what is located in the sea. During class snack she educated her fellow classmates. Her beautifully crafted illustrations are accompanied by text that highlights fish, octopus, plants and mermaids. Coralie describes herself as both an author and an avid reader!

This week, students in grades 4 & 5 enjoyed a book tasting at the Balzano Cafe. The special of the day was a selection of Nutmeg Nominees. Each year, the Nutmeg Book Committee chooses 10 fiction books for the Intermediate category. At the end of April, students have the opportunity to vote for their favorite and choose our state’s winner.

5th Grade Parents:

The 5th grade activity fee is now up on the membership toolkit (link listed below). It is a one-time fee of $25 that covers the costs of all the END OF THE YEAR activities scheduled for the 5th graders. It includes: Graduation T-shirt (50% of the payment), end of the year event for the 5th grade, graduation expenses, a gift/project to the school, etc.

Note: the 5th grade event has traditionally been a pool party/picnic during school hours.

As an all-volunteer group, the Fathers Club is very flexible and appreciates of all contributions of time and/or services parents can give. Getting involved is easy, fun and a great way to be connected with the children and their school.
