A Message from Principal Nixon--September 27, 2021

Dear Northwoods Families,

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! It's definitely beginning to feel more like the fall, which is exciting! With that in mind, please make sure to label all fall/winter clothing items (jackets, gloves, hats, etc.) with your child's name. Due to ongoing COVID restrictions, we are not maintaining a "lost & found" this year. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of each week.

About Red Ribbon Week:

Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, drug, and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States. Staff Retirements:

Our wonderful Assistant Principal, Mrs. Jackie Townes, will be retiring at the end of December after 36 years of service at Northwoods. Mrs. Townes has served as an Assistant Principal at Northwoods for 36 years! Additionally, our amazing Secretary, Mrs. Karen Matthews, will also be retiring in December. Mrs. Matthews has served at Northwoods as an Instructional Assistant and Secretary for 32 years. Please join me in congratulating them and thanking them for their service to our students, staff, and community!!

PTA Family Picnic:

Please join us this Saturday, October 2nd for our annual Family Picnic from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. We will have food trucks a dunking booth (don't miss the chance to dunk Mr. Nixon) and more. As a reminder, masks are required. Please see the flyer below for more information.

Fall Pictures:

Our first picture day of the 2021-22 school year is scheduled for Wednesday, October 13th. This event is for in-person students only. All in-person students will sit for individual/yearbook photos during the day. More information, including order packets, will be sent home in the coming days.

Students participating in the Virtual Academy will have the opportunity to take individual/yearbook pictures on Thursday, November 18th.

Morning Carpool:

If you are dropping off via carpool in the morning, we ask that you please help speed up the line by ensuring your child is ready to exit the vehicle quickly. Children should be unbuckled with backpacks, shoes, and masks on before your vehicle pulls to the front. We greatly appreciate your help and cooperation!

Afternoon Carpool:

To help speed up afternoon carpool, we ask that parents do the following:

  • Parents should remain in their vehicles in the carpool line rather than parking. For safety and security purposes, we have the right to refuse pickups for families that don't follow established procedures.
  • Use both lanes. Our carpool lane is designed to facilitate a "zipper merge." For more information about zipper merging, please refer to this short video.
  • Keep your carpool number visible at all times.
  • Ensure your child's teacher is aware of transportation changes by 12:00 each day.

Volunteers Wanted for the School Garden!

We are looking for volunteers to help tend the school garden. If interested, please contact Mrs. Stingley or email koalatygarden@gmail.com. For more information on the Northwoods School Garden, please visit https://www.northwoodspta.com/garden/.

Student T-shirt Sponsorships:

Each year, our PTA sells business sponsorships to help fund t-shirts for ALL of our students and staff at Northwoods. The shirts have become a wonderful tradition at Northwoods, helping to foster a sense of community and school spirit. With so many of our events and traditions still on hold, we felt that the shirts would be especially important again as some of us still work and learn from home.

We have halved our Gold and Platinum sponsorship amounts again this year and kept the popular $50 donation option! Costs usually run around $5000 to print shirts for all students and staff, so EVERY donation helps!

If you or someone you know would like to be a business sponsor, head over to our MemberHub store. The deadline for business sponsorships is October 1st, 2021.

Northwoods Spirit Wear:

Don't forget to order your Northwoods Spirit Wear by Friday, October 1st!! Items will be shipped after the store closes on the 1st. To order, please visit https://northwoodsspiritwearfall2021.itemorder.com/sale
