Winter Sanctuary Volunteers
We need you!
Where will the homeless go this winter?
The Winter Sanctuary program is the same program that you know and remember from previous few years. This year, it is managed and run by the Winter Sanctuary Collaborative (WSC), a group of 501(c)3 non-profits including E49 Corp. The WSC wants to partner with local churches to bring more value and services to Sacramento's vulnerable citizens. The Winter Sanctuary program is dedicated to serving the homeless in Sacramento County by providing refuge from the cold winter weather and rain, and offers services to assist them in their current situation.
HOW IT WORKS:
Each afternoon during the winter season, shuttle buses pick up as many as 100 men and women who have been screened by Sanctuary staff at the Main staging area (by Loaves & Fishes) in downtown Sacramento. The shuttles take the guests to each day’s designated host site, which we plan & hope are loving churches! The guests are given clean laundered sleeping bags by program staff during the registration process, and while they settle in for the evening, volunteers prepare a hot, nutritious dinner which their congregation has graciously funds. Volunteers are also encouraged to further interact with their guests, playing board games, showing movies, giving haircuts and engaging in conversation while the overnight professional program staff ensure a safe and restful night’s sleep for all.
