Smith's New Administration

A NOTE FROM MR. BRINKS

Hi Smith Families,

It has been a great first week for me at Smith! Thank you for the warm welcome. I’ve really enjoyed being able to visit classrooms and get to know your students. It was wonderful to connect with so many of you as well at our PTO meeting and Curriculum Night this week.

If you attended either of these two events, you had the opportunity to hear about the exciting Troy Schools Bond that is on the November 8 ballot. This bond proposal will address infrastructure upgrades district-wide and provide modern learning environments for all students, with the goal of increasing opportunities and enhancing teaching and learning.

One significant component of this bond will be to design and build a brand-new Smith Middle School to replace our current building and better meet the needs of our students and staff! We will be continuing to share more about the bond proposal in the coming weeks, but please take a few minutes to watch the message below from Dr. Machesky and you can read more about the bond on the Troy School website at: https://www.troy.k12.mi.us/bond-2022

Have a great weekend,

Ryan

A NOTE FROM MRS. CONATON

Smith Families,

We had a fantastic full week of school here at Smith Middle School. Students are beginning deep learning inside the classrooms with their teachers and peers. Last week I visited classrooms to discuss building wide expectations, emphasizing SAFETY as a driving factor for our discussion. We connected the core Smith values of Responsibility, Respect, Perseverance, and Compassion to common expectations and interactions with one another throughout the school day. I am really looking forward to a great year working with our Knight family!

Thank you for your presence during Curriculum night this week. It was refreshing to see so many of you in the building connecting with your student’s teachers. It will be important for you to access your student’s Schoology page to monitor coursework. If you are having any trouble accessing Schoology, please reach out to our Schoology Parent/Student liaison, Mr. Gareth Eve at mailto:geve@troy.k12.mi.us
