Principal's Message
Dear Alcova Family!
I hope you had a nice and relaxing extended weekend. We are continuing to be off to a good start with all of our students returning to school and learning virtually. Thank you for your support in making sure OUR students' learning is the top priority.
Proud to be Your Principal!

4th & 5th Graders Return
As we prepare for the return of some of our 4th and 5th grade students, we wanted you to know that our 4th and 5th grade teachers will not provide live instruction on Wednesday, September 9th. However, they will provide your child with assignments to complete. This will enable us to teach all of our processes and procedures to the students that have returned to campus. We will return to live instruction again on Thursday, September 10th. Please read over the information below.
- ALL students will receive instruction and/or assignments on the same AKS regardless of whether they are learning in-person or digitally.
- Teachers will plan lessons that focus on student mastery of the AKS and follow GCPS Instructional Pacing Guides.
- Teachers will be teaching simultaneously for all students (both in-person and digital).
- Please refer to your schedules posted on eCLASS from teachers. You will note the schedules are very similar to the Digital Instructional Schedule provided on August 10th. We have simply outlined the arrival/dismissal times for the day as well as the class transitions we will have on campus. When we have a transition, your child will have a device break.
- In addition, your child’s teacher will communicate the exact lunchtime assigned to the teacher and his/her class. This change was necessitated by the return of students to campus and the need to support social distancing as much as possible.
Transportation Updates
Due to changes based on new guidelines, please note the following:
- Students should arrive at their morning bus stop 10 minutes early as buses may arrive up to 10 minutes early to pick up students.
- Buses may deliver students up to 10 minutes late in the afternoon.
BYOD = Bring Your Own Device
If your child has their own device, please consider allowing him or her to bring it to school each day when they return in person. Our goal is for every child to have a device so they can have access to technology without sharing devices with other students. Not having to share means less time spent cleaning and disinfecting and it helps maintain a safer, healthier environment for everyone. Remember that in order for students to use their devices at school, parents must review and sign the Gwinnett County Student/Parent Handbook. This can be done on My Payments Plus. More information can be found HERE.
Parent Workshop - All Things Digital!
Please plan to join us Thursday, September 10th, from 1:00-2:00PM for our first parent workshop (All Things Digital). We heard from several parents during our Title I Planning Meeting that having the opportunity to see some of the most used digital resources and applications would be helpful to parents. We are excited to have you join us for this workshop. Below is the Zoom link. You will also find the agenda and evaluation linked as well.
