Get to Know: Beth Allen
BCPS Director of Technology
A little about me...
I was born here in Roanoke, Virginia and was called Beth Anne by my family and friends growing up. Among my favorite childhood memories was going to the beach with my father and stepmother. The beach is still my favorite destination for vacations. Amy and Amanda are my sisters, and I have two sons, Nick and Austin, who both graduated from Botetourt County Schools.
What did you want to be when you grew up? A teacher
I have worked at Botetourt County Public Schools for over 30 years, and I consider it one of my life's greatest honors and achievements. I started my career as a Social Studies teacher, and after 15 years transitioned to the technology department. I am a proud Hokie! I attended Virginia Tech as an undergraduate and post-graduate, and my son is currently a grad student there as well.
A little about my education...
Elementary School: Hardy Road
Hardy Road Elementary is now called W.E. Cundiff.
Middle School: Pulaski
When Pulaski Middle School closed, it sat vacant for a little while. The Town of Pulaski recently decided to turn it into apartment housing.
High School: Cave Spring & Lord Botetourt
I started high school at Cave Spring, but finished as a Lord Botetourt Cavalier. My favorite teacher was Mrs. Sheffer, from the LBHS English Department. I was in the SCA and participated in track, tennis, and was a manager for the football team.
College: Virginia Tech
I attended Virginia Tech and majored in History and Political Science. These were my favorite classes!
Graduate: Virginia Tech
I was proud to remain a Hokie and earned a Masters in Instructional Design & Technology.
See you at the beach!
I recently bought a condo in North Myrtle Beach and love spending time there as my "home away from home" whenever I can.
