Stayton Elementary School
October Cheetah News
Principal's Corner
Dear Parents and Families,
October is a very busy month for students and staff at SES. October is fire safety awareness month. Students will participate in fire safety awareness training with the Stayton Fire Department on October 22nd.
In October, we also hold our state required annual teaching and practicing of our lock down drill with students. This practice drill provides students and staff time to review plans and practice, so that everyone can remain safe in the event of an actual emergency. We will also be practicing our monthly fire drill procedures as well.
Third grade classes will continue swimming lessons this month. They will also be heading to Silver Falls for a field trip. Kindergarten classes will be going to the Wavra Farms and enjoying their pumpkin patch. Please look for monthly newsletters from your child’s teacher to help keep you informed.
AVID Corner
New this year to Stayton Elementary is AVID Elementary. Currently SIS/SMS and the high school have been implementing AVID in their buildings for the past few years. We received a generous grant this year to send 9 of our staff to a special training this summer to learn how to implement AVID Elementary at our school. We have decided that we will focus on implementation in our 2nd and 3rd grades this year and next. Look for our 3rd grade students to come home with binders to help them organize their learning. We will continue to explore what AVID Elementary will look like at SES and for our students in upcoming issues.
