WWMS SCHOOL CONNECTEDNESS
As a parent, you want your child to do well academically in school. You also want your child to be healthy and avoid behaviors that are risky or harmful. Through your guidance and support, you can have great influence on your child’s health and learning. But you also have important allies in this effort—the caring adults at Woodrow Wilson Middle School.
Research shows that students who feel a genuine sense of belonging at school are more likely to do well in school, stay in school, and make healthy choices. This sense of belonging is often described as school connectedness.
We have many ways at Woodrow Wilson Middle School where students can feel a sense of belonging. 2/3 or close to 800 students at WWMS participate in a co-curricular or a club. We have 13 co-curriculars and over 2 dozen clubs. Approximately 300 students participate in our intramural program before or after school. Close to 200 students compete in our athletic programming. Additionally, we host many student committees such as the Principal's Advisory Committee where students can be a part of the decision making process at WWMS. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the student opportunities available at WWMS.
We also understand that some of our students are struggling with their return to in-person learning. They might not have felt closure from elementary school due to the pandemic, they might be struggling to make friends in such a big school, or they are new to the district and are still acclimating to their new town. If you feel that your child needs support in finding connectivity to school please reach out to their guidance counselor so that we can work together for them to feel connected to WWMS.
Yours in education,
Mrs. Blevins
