TO GIVE IS TO RECEIVE
FOCUS SCHOOL VALUE FOR 2023: RESPECT
Our community values an attitude of caring deeply about people and treating them with dignity. We care about ourselves and the world around us. Respect is evident when:
• we treat others as we want to be treated
• we express feelings in a peaceful way
• we speak courteously to everyone
• we bring honour to ourselves, our families and our school
• we recognise the achievements of each person
• we build positive relationships
• we show equal justice and fairness
Harmony Prayer
God of unity,
You are our God who accepts all. Help us to open our arms, hearts and minds to all our brothers and sisters in Australia and appreciate the many cultures, languages and backgrounds of our people. Help us to always show compassion and kindness, and grant us the strength to help carry burdens of others.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
“I am not capable of doing big things, but I want to do everything, even the smallest things, for the greater glory of God” –Saint Dominic Savio.
A reflection on one of this week’s Gospel readings suggested sending a handwritten note of thanks to someone. The art of handwritten notes on beautiful writing paper is slowly disappearing; however, when we communicate our gratitude to others in various forms, the impact can be the same. This week, I was told a heartwarming story of a child who had made cards for some classmates, after discussing our School Value of Respect. If you wish to read more on the Lenten Gospel reflection please use this link.
Harmony Day
The students have worked together to create a fabulous display of artworks for Harmony Week. Please visit the quad to view the display and take some time to speak with your children about inclusion and finding ways to positively embrace the diversity of our community.
Harmony Week is an opportunity for all Western Australian to celebrate our vibrant multicultural state while working together to remove barriers. The week runs from 15 to 21 March every year and encourages everyone to experience, explore and appreciate WA's wealth of cultural, religious and linguistic diversity (Office of Multicultural Interests).
Playgroup
We are excited to announce that we have partnered with Playgroup WA to form the Orana Playgroup. The playgroup will serve our families, the families of the parish and beyond to the local area, for children from birth to three years. We will be hosting a Meet and Greet session on Monday, 1st May. Please see the flyer below to register your interest.
P and F Canteen Day
The P and F Canteen Day was a popular event for both students and parents. Thank-you to the P and F Committee members and volunteers for all your efforts in serving so many orders in a short time frame. There were many delighted faces as the children enjoyed their special lunch.
Naplan
NAPLAN testing is now completed. Well done to the Year Three and Year Five students for their participation and positive outlook to the challenge that formal testing presents to some students.
Walk to School Day
It was fantastic to see families walking, riding and scooting to school this morning. Actively travelling to school is healthy, good for our environment and sets students up for a morning of learning.
Term 1 Parent Meetings
Parent meetings have commenced this week and continue next week. If you have not yet made a time to meet please contact your child’s class teacher. I would like to acknowledge the time teachers take in preparing for and meeting with parents.
Road Safety
Safety remains a concern on Chelmer Way in the afternoons. When using the back gate pick up, parents must park in a marked bay. If there is no bay available, please drive around the block. These bays turn over quickly, particularly if you arrive after 3.15pm. Students are not at the back gate until at least this time. Pulling up on the road for your child to get into the car is dangerous, particularly due to the curve and narrow width of the road. Drive through pick up is only available inside the school carpark at the green shed.
Kindy and Pre-Kindy Enrolments 2024
Kindy and Pre-Kindy interviews for 2024 will commence early next term. If you have a child who is due to begin Kindy or Pre-Kindy in 2024, please ensure your application has been received by the school office.
Best wishes and God bless.

Project Compassion
Project Compassion will continue throughout the season of Lent with each class having their own Project Compassion box. Project Compassion aims to work towards making the lives of others better around the world. This year’s theme is For Future Generations. Students may wish to do extra chores around the house to earn money or go without a special treat such as an ice-cream and donate the money to Project Compassion.

How To Help Your Child Make Friends in School
While finding friends can happen naturally and with ease for some children, there are things parents and schools can do to help facilitate these relationships if a child is finding the process difficult.
