Collegiate Academy at TCC Northeast
February 9, 2020
Parents and Students,
Reminder: Collegiate Academy will be is session on Monday, February 17!
Let's celebrate the week of Love by thinking about the real meaning of LOVE.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. ... So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Martin Luther King said, "And I say to you, I have also decided to stick with love, for I know that love is ultimately the only answer to humankind’s problems. And I’m going to talk about it everywhere I go. I know it isn’t popular to talk about it in some circles today. And I’m not talking about emotional bosh when I talk about love; I’m talking about a strong, demanding love. For I have seen too much hate. [...] and I say to myself that hate is too great a burden to bear. I have decided to love. If you are seeking the highest good, I think you can find it through love."
I agree with Dr. King, I'm sticking with Love!
Always grateful,
Ms. Knutz

We are entering into a critical stretch for the spring semester where students are fully loaded with exam preparation, projects and the like, and it is important to make sure your student has an organizational strategy that supports success.
Please have a short talk with your student and test their organizational strategy. Does it keep track of the daily tasks? Does it allow for them to watch the horizon and prepare for upcoming deadlines? Is it easy to use and access? Is it as simple as it could be while still accomplishing all of these things? If so, great! If not, our Pathways teachers can help your student come up with a strategy that works.
Half the battle is organization.
Thank you!

SCHOOL COUNSELOR CHRONICLES
Attention Parents:
Your student is doing a lot right now and it's important to check in. As the counselor I'll always do everything I can to meet with any student in need, but I know that not everyone will feel comfortable coming to talk to an adult that they aren't as close with as they are with their parents. Ask them how their college classes are going. Ask them how their high school classes are going. Ask them about their favorite teachers or the friends they're making. Ask them what is causing them stress and try to help them determine what they can do to alleviate some of that stress.
If you have any questions or concerns or just want some additional resources just reach out and let me know. I'm happy to help!

Junior Class SAT at School on March 4, 2020
Starting this school year, House Bill 3 (HB 3) included a school finance provision that provides for every junior and senior to take a college preparation exam at least once during high school. In October, approximately half of our seniors took the SAT at school at no cost to them. On March 4th, all GCISD juniors will have the opportunity to take the SAT at school at no cost as well. Materials for all juniors will be provided so no registration will be required.
