Weekly Message
Dear Raleigh Hills Families and Community,
Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope that you and your family had a restful and relaxing break. We are back into the swing of things and reteaching all of our expectations so we can get into the full swing of school. January is always an exciting time because we get to see how much growth students have made. We also have many weeks and months of teaching uninterrupted so it's a great time to get a lot of concepts covered.
It's usually uninterrupted, but you may have heard that snow is in the forecast for next week. It may or may not happen, but we always want to be prepared. Please check your students' emergency going home plans in ParentVue to make sure the information is the most accurate and up to date. If not, please send your child's teacher an email with the correct information. Please see the directions further down in the newsletter for fixing up ParentVue with the current information if you prefer to do it that way.
This is also the time of year when many students get wet at recess. Even with the precautions we take, going down the slide can sometimes be messy. If you are able to put dry pants, underwear and socks in a ziploc bag in your child's backpack, that can really help when accidents happen.
We're looking forward to a 2020 full of learning and fun at Raleigh Hills.
Warm regards,
Jennifer
Celebrating Student Learning
Dream Box Contest
Some cool things about the program:
- It learns your student so they are getting problems at their just right level
- It provides the students all the tools they need to solve the problem
- It tracks the tools they access to help them solve it so it knows what to suggest next
- It can even tell if you're helping - so don't help! It won't move them up through the levels
- Do feel free to watch your student as they move through the levels to see what types of things they're learning in math!

New Staff
Alaina Oreglia is joining us in the library. She will take over for Mrs. Moore while she's doing her student teaching in Amy Bartizal's class. Alaina has a wealth of library and teaching experience. She met her classes this week and has fit in well already.
Theodore Engel will be working with extra reading support and helping with our duties. He is filling in while Mr. Anderson is doing his student teaching in Hillsboro and then with Mary Towell. We are so fortunate to have Mr. Engel. He has been a paraeducator in Washington before joining us here.

Unscheduled Dismissal - What's Your Plan?
During an unscheduled early dismissal, schools will use the emergency closure plan you indicated for your student in enrollment and enrollment verification. During the online process, you were asked to indicate what the student should do in case of emergency or early school closure.
The three options were:
Pick up by Parent/Emergency Contact/Daycare
School Bus to Home/Neighbor/Daycare
Walk/Ride Bike/Drive to Home/Neighbor/Daycare
If you don’t remember what you selected, you can check by logging into ParentVUE and clicking on “Student Info” in the left hand navigation. Your selection will be displayed at the bottom of the page under “Other Data.”
If you wish to change this plan, contact your school or update through ParentVUE using the Family Updates and New Student Enrollment button. The fastest way to update your information is to call the school.
Please make a note of the option you selected and keep the information somewhere handy, in the event of a future early school closure.
