Virtue of the Month: Helpfulness
Helpfulness is being of service to others, doing thoughtful things that make a difference in their lives. Offer your help without waiting to be asked. Ask for help when you need it. When we help each other, we get more done. We make our lives easier.
You are practicing helpfulness when you...
- Notice when someone needs help
- Do a service without being asked
- Give people what they need, not always what they want
- Listen to someone who needs to talk
- Care for your own needs
- Ask for help when you need it

A Note From the Principal
Dear Woodholme Families,
I want to thank all of the parents and grandparents who have blessed me with such generous sentiments and kind words after the announcement of my upcoming retirement! I keep telling the students who ask if I'm leaving now that I'm not leaving yet! I'll see them off on the last day of school and then help close out the 2018-19 school year in order to get ready for the 2019-20 school year! Ms. Juliet McDivitt, Woodholme's Principal starting July 1st, has already been to visit twice to greet staff members and get to know the building. She will also be available to greet parents and students at our Student Showcase Night coming up Tuesday, May 21st, so look for her there.
Speaking of Student Showcase Night, we are very excited again this year to showcase student talents and work by inviting families and community members to Woodholme on May 21st from 6:00 - 8:00 PM for our 5th annual Student Showcase night! The Rockin' Rockets will perform at 6:30 PM. Every student in the school will have something to display, so feel free to stop in and celebrate our amazing students with us!
The state mandated MCAP (PARCC) testing will take place the next three weeks at Woodholme, so thanks for avoiding those important testing dates when scheduling dentist and doctor appointments for your 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. See the calendar attached to this newsletter for the exact MCAP/PARCC testing dates for your child(ren).
The official last day of school will be Monday, June 17th, with Friday and Monday, June 14 and 17 being 3 hour early dismissal days for elementary and middle schools. June 5th is now a full day of school due to make up days for inclement weather.
Woodholme will be a schoolwide Title 1 school for the 2019-20 school year. Our school is designated as a Title 1 school based on the Free And Reduced Meals (FARMS) percentage in our school. This designation means additional money provided to the school for additional staffing and materials for our students. We'd like to thank the parents who have been participating in the Title 1 transition to schoolwide meetings each month!
The next PTA meeting will be Thursday, May 9th starting at 6:00 PM in the library. Come learn what the PTA is and learn about the benefits of parent engagement. We are always looking for volunteers and parent leaders. Woodholme teachers and staff would like to thank the PTA for their support during our Teacher Appreciation Week with Smoothie King smoothies and daily special snacks and treats. Thanks so much for your support PTA!
Thank you for reading the newsletter and school emails to stay informed about Woodholme! We appreciate your communication, collaboration and support! Here's wishing everyone a great end to our school year!
