Joyceville PS Week Ahead

September 8, 2015

Cultivating Critical Thinking in Responsive Learning Environments

I would like to extend a huge thank you to each one of you for warmly welcoming me as I begin my journey at Joyceville. It already feels like home!

As well, your tremendous efforts to prepare for the students are much appreciated! You are a dynamic, dedicated and talented team of people of who clearly enjoy what you do and care about the students. It's also evident you care for and support each other. Our jobs can be challenging at times, and this positive collaborative environment makes this not only easier, but fun and exciting!

The start of the school year is often a special time. It is a chance for new beginnings and new opportunities. Many of our students start the new year with enthusiasm and optimism, others with some anxieties and reluctance. I believe that building positive, trusting relationships is the key to a great school. Over the next few weeks, I encourage you to spend time getting to know your students and their individual needs - academic, learning skills/style, social/emotional, and their interests. This will be important as we work together to help each of them be successful!!! The time you spend building a safe, inclusive classroom community with your students, and positive relationships with you and each other, will also be of great benefit. We want our students to be motivated, engaged risk takers!

The start of the school also provides new opportunities for us as staff! I encourage you to take risks and follow your passions!!

There is a link at the bottom to a Ted Talk by Drew Dudley about Everyday Leadership. I hope you get a chance to watch it because I think it is what Joyceville PS is all about!

Together, I know we can continue to make Joyceville PS a safe, engaging and high-achieving school that is a welcoming place for everyone!

If you have any concerns, questions, exciting things to share, great ideas you’d like to try, or support or resources you need, please let me know!
