Parents of Kindergarten Students
As you know, a child’s first years in school can set the tone for the future school years. For this reason, it is important to make sure they are prepared socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically to enter kindergarten. The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) has partnered with the Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) in an effort to help both schools and families with the transition to kindergarten. The Department of Education is pleased and excited to announce the launch of a parent resource website for the GKIDS Readiness Check! The site will serve as a resource for parents to learn more about kindergarten readiness, the skills assessed on the GKIDS Readiness Check, and activities to help support their child’s development at home. The site includes Spanish translation and closed captioning. A flyer will be coming home with your child soon.
Solar Eclipse
On August 21, 2017, our school and community will witness an eclipse while the children are in school. We will practice the viewing advice of NASA and American Astronomical Society, and will assess personally purchased glasses for ISO (International Organization for Standardization) compliance before students can participate in any school activities.
The educational opportunities presented by this event are impossible to overstate. We have posted resources at www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/eclipse to help parents support instructional activities while highlighting a safe experience.
Since safety is our first priority, dismissal will be delayed until 3:40 pm which will ensure that neither students nor employees are on the roadways during the time of the eclipse.
Please complete the viewing form and return to school no later than August 16th. If your child does not return the form, he/she will be unable to participate in the solar viewing event.
