Closure
by Sarah Crum, Director of Student Services
Whenever I was on the brink of a big change in my life, my father’s advice was, “Sarah, always move towards something, never away.” In general, taking my father’s advice is the right thing to do. However, I think sometimes, in life, we are so eager for what is next that we forget to pause and reflect on the path we are leaving. For fourteen years, as a teacher at CVU, I watched as my advisees of four years approached graduation and I cheered them on: acknowledging their accomplishments, assuring them they were ready for the next step, and applauding as they crossed that stage. My good friend and colleague always said, we take such care in nurturing these relationships, and then we hurry through the goodbye.
What I have come to appreciate is that the goodbye is also worthwhile. Because in every new adventure, every new risk and challenge I encountered, the previous journey was what prepared me. Who I was becoming was intimately shaped by where I was coming from. In the last few weeks in our schools, students have been preparing for their next adventures. Incoming kindergarten students visited their classrooms, and all the grades have either visited their new classrooms or hosted new students. I noticed that they are simultaneously nervous and excited, but more than anything else they are ready. So as we all prepare to adjust to summer vacation, I hope you can spend some time finding closure for this chapter knowing that these are the important foundations that make the next chapter full of all its potential.
Congratulations to all of you at ABS & WCS for your accomplishments and growth this year. May these summer months bring you some time to reflect and appreciate all that growth. You may say goodbye to that teacher, that particular classroom and group of classmates. But you will carry all that growth with you as you prepare to move toward your new adventure. Enjoy! You deserve it!
A special congratulations and best wishes to all our 8th Grade Graduates this week!
Fun Day
Thanks you to all parents who came to support the students during Fun Day on June 7th at WCS. Thanks also to all the faculty and staff who support the PE staff during the day for Fun Day. The Upper House students did a fantastic job of leading the activities with our students in grades 1-4. This is a fantastic cross grade event that helps build leadership within our older students. It was a fantastic day and the students really enjoyed it. It is always a great way to wrap up the work we do during the year in Physical Education.
The Kids Heart Challenge Prizes were ordered promptly after the event. Currently they have not arrived. This is beyond our control, however we are frustrated by the lack of their arrival. If they do not arrive during the remainder of the school year we will explore ideas of how to get the prizes to you child. Rest assured we would like them to have what they are due. Next year we will look at holding the event earlier in the year in hopes to assure we don't have the same problem in the future. Thank you for supporting your child during this event. We raised close to $11,000 to support the American Heart Association.
The Physical Education Staff from both Allen Brook School and Williston Central School hope that you have a healthy and active summer.
Bag Lunch Available for Last Day
Included in the bag along with the sandwich is a sweet treat, veggie sticks, fruit and milk.

Health Office Note
****Please pick up your child’s medications***
(Everything must go!)
As the school year comes to an end, we’d like to remind you to think about picking up any medications your child has in either of our Health Offices. This includes any medications that your child may need next year, as we cannot store medication in the Health Offices over the summer. Prescription medications must be picked up by a parent. Please call your child’s Health Office (ABS: 871-6248, WCS: 871-6170) to make arrangements to get these medications home.

Summer Student Information Updates go Electronic
Starting this summer, the Champlain Valley School District will move to an online platform for some student paperwork . This will include not only the summer student information update sheet and health form, but basic registration forms and other permissions and updates as well.
Previously summer update forms were printed and mailed home for families to review, make updates and corrections, and return to school. This summer we expect to send the summer update forms to families via email, with the ability to complete and submit back to school electronically.
As always, the timely return of the requested information is important so that we have accurate emergency contact and medical information before your student begins in August.
Please be on the lookout this summer for an email with more detailed information about how to access the site and enter this information for your child(ren). We will also share more about this via the CVSD Facebook page and the CVSD and school websites.
We have taken extra measures to ensure that this data is safe and secure. We are excited to move to a more efficient process. As always, there will be options for those without internet access. Thank you for your support.
Book Discussion at CVU
Many of our 7th and 8th grade students are currently participating in the CVSD Common Read with March: Book One by civil rights icon John Lewis. These students are highly encouraged to attend an inter-generational book discussion at CVU on June 19th at 6pm. The discussion is open to all members of the community, and it will have two strands after a collective introduction: 1) for those who have already read the book and who would like to dive deeper into its themes, and 2) for those who had yet to read the book and who would like background knowledge and context about its content. We look forward to seeing students, parents, and community members!
To Parents of 7th Grade Students
The families of 8th graders need you! Each year parents of 7th graders help with the graduation reception at WCS. We need help setting up food, serving and cleaning up. Providing this help allows families of 8th graders focus on celebrating their children and this milestone. Graduation is on June 13 and the reception is held in either the WCS Courtyard or the Cafeteria, depending on the weather. We are seeking help between 6:30pm and 9:00pm.
Please use the sign up below or email Shelley at shellcore@comcast.net with questions.
WCS Lost and Found
Has your WCS student lost something this year? Please stop by the WCS lobby to claim lost items that may have been found. Unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the year
Food Service Survey
A big thank you to the community members who participated in our Food Service Listening Session in May. If you were not able to attend but would like to share your thoughts on your school's Food Service Program, please take our survey before the end of the school year.
