Information for 5th Grade Families
Social Media and our 5th grade Students
Dear Parents of 5th Grade Students:
We hope this letter finds you well. We are writing today because we have some serious concerns about an increase in social media activity by students in 5th grade, and we wanted to share them with you. Our hope is that with this letter, as parents, you will be equipped with pertinent information, can have a conversation with your child, and will choose to support our ongoing efforts to finish the year on a positive note for our promoting 5th grade students.
Over the past weeks, we have had investigated reports of videos posted on TikTok, texts sent to students, and rumors about both. The activity is happening after hours or on weekends but is carrying over to the school setting. While we know not everyone is involved, many students are aware of the situation. We are hoping that families will speak to students about their online social presence (if any) and the best way to manage it.
We have included a variety of links with information to support families in their conversations with their students about social media, apps, and safety.
We appreciate your continued support in helping all of our students be successful as they finish up their year.
