Wildwood Elementary School

September Newsletter

A note from your principal...

Dear Parents,

We have had an outstanding start to our 2022-2023 school year! Our students are learning classroom and school-wide routines and procedures as we lay a strong foundation for learning. Our teachers have created beautiful classroom environments where children feel comfortable engaging in rigorous content. I continue to feel proud of our Wildwood campus for providing high quality teaching and learning daily.

We have begun our Watch Dog program and it's been a joy to see our dads supporting our campus! Their presence on campus has added an increased comfort by checking doors, supporting students in the cafeteria and halls, and reading to classes. Thank you to all of our Dads for participating!

I look forward to seeing more of our parents when we open our doors for lunch visitors. As a reminder, parents are welcome to visit their child at their lunch time starting September 26, 2022. In the meantime, you are welcome to visit for lunch if it is your child's birthday. Our lunch visitation schedule is listed below.

Thank you for your support and allowing us to be a part of your child's growth and development.

Lunch Visitation

Starting Monday, September 26, you are welcome to join your child at lunch. To provide enough space for our parents, we ask that you follow the schedule below:

Mondays: Last names beginning with A-E

Tuesdays: Last names beginning with F-L

Wednesdays: Last names beginning with M-P

Thursdays: Last names beginning with Q-Z

Fridays: Sept 30 and all of October last names beginning with A-E

Student ID Badges

This year all students need to wear their identification badge to school every day. The badge is used in the library to check out books, to purchase any food in the cafeteria, and to monitor student location while riding the bus.

Thank you for establishing a system at home so your child wears it daily. If badges are lost, please let us know and we can make a new one for $5.00.

Attendance

Please make school attendance a priority at home. Last year our annual attendance dropped from 96.94% in 2020-2021 to 95.07% in 2021-2022. If your child is sick and goes to see a doctor, their absence will not be counted (doctor's notes need to be sent to school). Therefore, the drop in attendance does not include Covid or other illnesses.

Our Assistant Principal, Megan Parker, will begin reaching out to families with excessive absences to schedule Truancy Prevention and Support Meetings beginning Friday, September 9.

Our students are very bright and capable, but will miss academic content as well as healthy socialization when they are not here.

Thank you for helping our overall attendance improve this year.

Transportation Changes

Please be reminded of our procedures concerning changes in transportation:

-No Changes after 3:00

-Either send a handwritten note or fax to 281-357-3041, notifying us of a change

(no emails can be accepted, as we cannot verify your identity)

-3:30 is the latest parents can arrive at campus and pick a child up. After 3:30, please enter the car rider line and wait until dismissal.

We are doing our very best to keep your children safe at school and during dismissal. Thank you for supporting our procedures.

A Note from the Cafeteria

Please be reminded of the following:

1. Students arriving after the 8:55 tardy bell will be allowed to purchase breakfast until 9:15 am.

2. Please monitor your child's lunch account, making sure there is sufficient funds to purchase food. Students will be offered a courtesy meal for a short period of time if funds are deficient.
