Support Opportunities for Students
One of the areas of focus this year at the middle school is supporting the students in completing their daily independent assignments and homework. Extending learning beyond the school day supports students’ independence and their mastery of learning concepts. Parents are encouraged to follow your child’s daily assignments on Schoology and provide a quiet location at home for him/her to complete their homework each afternoon/evening. We thank you for your continued partnership and support.
At school, we are implementing many different levels of support both during and after the school day. Below provides a brief summary of these supports.
During school:
Study hall-everyday during recess time, we have a quiet study hall available for students.
Math specific study hall-everyday during recess time, we have a math teacher available to support students in the area of math
Missed Assignment Study Hall (MASH)-Fridays-this study hall is mandatory for any student who has not completed two (2) assignments on time throughout the week.
After school Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (the late bus is available for all students to ride home):
Open Library-the library is open for students for independent learning and collaboration on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
PACE is a supervised, invitation only, place for students to silently and independently accomplish any assignments they have outstanding and process a plan for the future. This may be offered Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
10th Period is a supervised, invitation only, place for students to receive additional support to accomplish their assignments. Teachers will discuss, recommend, and contact families about this opportunity on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
As you can see, there are many offerings to support our students. We thank our teachers for providing some many options during each very busy school day.
Tiger Tipline
While it is always best to talk directly to a staff member, we understand that sometimes this can be uncomfortable or difficult for students or parents. At Pleasantdale Middle School, we offer the Tiger Tipline as an anonymous tool for reporting unsafe, uncomfortable, or unkind behaviors and situations. We explicitly teach the students that if they ever see something or hear something that makes them feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or is unkind, either online or in person, they should tell a “trusted adult” which could be parents, school personnel, or other adults in their lives. The Tiger Tipline can be accessed here and we will post the link in Schoology and create a shortcut to the link on the student devices for easy access.
Dates for the Year
If you are like me, you want to know the dates for the year as far in advance as possible. As long as you understand that something may change due to unforeseen circumstances, I’d like to provide you access to the dates we’ve planned for the year (many of which are in the paper calendar you received in the mail). To access the middle school calendar dates, please click here.
