OTSEGO LOCAL SCHOOLS
Superintendent's Weekly Update - April 20, 2018
Otsego Community -
The Board of Education help their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday. Below are the highlights.
The Board of Education, Mr. Carroll, and I have been discussing our school finances in great detail this year. I shared this presentation in an earlier newsletter but wanted to send it out again in case you missed it. Click here for a copy of the presentation.
The need for additional revenue is approaching, and the board has been discussing options the past several months. Conversations are centering around how much additional revenue we need, when to put a levy on the ballot, and what type of levy it will be (income or property).
This fiscal year marks the first time we will spend more money than we will receive since 2014 (deficit spent by only $6,000) and before that, it was 2009. We want to be proactive and continue providing innovative programs for our students. We are constantly evaluating our expenses and looking for ways to be more efficient while maintaining our high level of education. Our enrollment has been trending upward in recent years, and as a result, additional staff members have been hired. The chart below shows that our expenses continue to be one of the lowest in the area when comparing expenditures per pupil.
We will continue to update you on the progress of our conversations. We plan to continue these conversations at the May Board Meeting.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Steve or I.

According to the Ohio Department of Education, "in today’s economy, it is critical that Ohio schools prepare all students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in future learning, careers and life. Parents, educators and the business community want to prepare students for successful career paths, whether those include college degrees, industry credentials, apprenticeships, military enlistment or a combination of these."
Otsego Schools are committed to these principles and have formed a business advisory council to create a plan to assure our students are as prepared as they can be. As a starting point, in order for our students to succeed in the world after high school graduation, we want to understand the areas of skills and knowledge that you believe are most critical.

Babysitting Database: I put this database together a couple of years ago and I recently had a few more requests about wanting to start babysitting full time and the need for finding a babysitter. I thought I would share this again to help get people in contact with each other. If you previously filled the form out below, please fill it out again. I deleted all of the names from the list of babysitters, since the information was outdated.
I am not the middle man for any communication between parent and provider. I am simply willing to help gather the information for everyone. Below you will find a form to fill out if you are a babysitter in the Otsego District and accepting kids. Again, only fill out the form if you are a babysitter willing to be contacted for your services. The other link is a list of babysitters that have filled out the form and looking for additional children to babysit.
Go Knights!
