Week of Sep 4 - Parent Edition
Kay's Creek Updates
Hello Kay's Creek Families,
We hope you have a nice Labor Day Weekend. This week I invite you and your student to join us in finding opportunities to recognize moments that have mattered to your child at school during this start to the new year. Whether it's a quick jot on a sticky note, a kind word to a staff member, or an email to a teacher, your positive feedback makes a difference to all those who plan so intentionally for the meaningful moments they spend with your children each day. Did your child have a good moment with a teacher? Did your child do something that made a positive impact on another student? I invite you to take a minute and discuss that with them. Thank you!

Counselor Message
Hi everyone, I am excited to be back for another year at Kay's Creek Elementary! I thought it might be helpful to start the year by briefly describing my role at Kay's Creek. There are many roles and responsibilities I have as a school counselor, with three primary functions that make up any given day. They consist of working with students one-on-one, conducting small groups, and classroom instruction. The document below describes those functions and my work with students and gives a short overview of the group counseling instruction that I offer. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about how I can help your student. I’m looking forward to another great year!

Lunch Schedule
If you walk through our lunchroom on any given day, you'll hear a buzz of conversation and laughter from our students. Our lunch manager and staff do an excellent job serving and seating our student population of 720 each day! We're grateful to them for their efforts and efficiency. We're also appreciative to our custodians and other staff who help manage and clean the lunchroom. It is a constant routine of greeting, seating, wiping, sweeping, and mopping by multiple people. Our students show respect and appreciation to them by trying their best to follow our lunchroom procedures which helps cut down on the natural chaos that occurs when happy children get together around food! Whether students bring home lunch or eat school lunch, students in all grades sit at their tables for a minimum of 15 minutes to ensure they take time to eat before being released to recess. Some students need more time than others to eat and are invited to stay longer to finish their lunch at our "finisher tables." We do not have a parent lunch area, but if a parent wants to eat lunch with their student they may check them out right before their lunch period and take them to lunch. We've included our lunch break schedule below for your information and scheduling. It is also posted on our school website. Thank you for your support.
Kay's Creek has a special education TA position open. If you are interested in working a few hours a day, please contact Principal Bukey. jbukey@dsdmail.net

College Savings Scholarship Contest
My529 is sponsoring our annual Make Your Mark bookmark contest for Utah students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Eight winners will each receive a $1,000 my529 college savings scholarship account from my529 and the Utah System of Higher Education.
For 14 years, my529 has held the art contest to celebrate national College Savings Month in September and our commitment to higher education, whether in a university, college or technical school.
Parents/guardians are not required to own a my529 account for their child to enter the contest. There is no purchase necessary to enter.
The contest runs September 1 through October 2, 2023. Entrants must submit an original bookmark design on the official entry form, which is available at https://my529.org/make-your-mark-contest/. Address information and a complete set of contest rules and restrictions are detailed on the back of the official entry form. Only one entry per student is allowed.
Entries must be received by my529 no later than October 2, 2023, by 11:59 p.m. MT. Submit entries to my529 by mail or online at my529.wetransfer.com/.
A panel of judges will select two winners from each of four grade categories (K-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-12). In addition to the scholarship account, contest winners may see their artwork professionally reproduced.
my529 will notify contest winners by late October. All decisions by my529 and the judges are final.
The contest is not open to past winners or children of people employed or affiliated with the Utah Board of Higher Education, Utah Education Savings Board of Trustees, my529, Utah System of Higher Education, or their advertising agencies.
my529 is Utah’s official 529 educational savings plan.
