Piloting L.E.A.D. Cards
As part of our pledge to cultivate responsibility in our learners, a team of Lead Learners will be piloting the L.E.A.D card in Communities 1-8 from March until May.
What is a L.E.A.D Card?
L.E.A.D is an acronym for:
Lead Others; Encourage Responsibility; Achieve Greatness; and Discover the BEST version of YOU!
The L.E.A.D card is a badge that allows learners to access privileges, with the permission of the Lead Learner. Every child will be given the L.E.A.D card.
Why should Learners have a L.E.AD Card?
The purpose of the L.E.A.D. card is to make trust an explicit, viewable part of what we do. The aim of the L.E.A.D. Card is to support learners to make good decisions, assume responsibility for their actions, and take ownership of their choices.
How does the L.E.A.D Card work?
The L.E.A.D Card gives learners opportunities to recognize their actions and will help our learners develop an awareness of their actions. Based on trust, campus-wide privileges are given if you have your L.E.A.D. Card:
1. To work in the hallways with facilitator discretion.
2. To use cell phone devices when appropriate. (6-8 only).
3. To use technology devices during appropriate times (K-8).
4. To use the restroom when appropriate without an escort.
5. To work in groups unsupervised by an adult (but in close proximity).
6. To listen to music with headphones.
7. To attend extra-curricular after school activities.
8. To run errands around the school.
9. To sit where they would like at lunch.
10. To have recess privileges.
11. Other privileges specified by classroom lead learner.
12. Vending machine privileges (for upper communities only).
If a student breaks the trust bond with a teacher/administrator, she/he must work to rebuild the trust. The steps are listed below:
L.E.A.D Card Step 1 - L.E.A.D Card warning/conference with Lead Learner
L.E.A.D Card Step 2 - Official written warning.
L.E.A.D Card Step 3 - Loss of L.E.A.D Card. Learners are required to determine which norm (trust, respect or responsibility) they were breaking. Students also complete a plan to regain their card and to prevent further violations of L.E.A.D Card norms. All PRS Administrators, Lead Learners, and parents are emailed when a student is on Step 3. Students will not be allowed to have the privileges of the L.E.A.D Card. Students will be allowed to use the restroom, but they must be accompanied by a member of staff. If a student continues to violate PRS norms then he/she will be referred to an administrator.
How does my Learner regain the L.E.A.D. Card?
Learners will be required to complete a plan of action with their lead learner to regain their L.E.A.D. card. The goal is to help each learner understand the impact of his or her decision/action and the steps he/she can take to avoid it happening again.March 21-25 - Spring Break - Have fun and Be Safe!
