Sterling School Celebrates Veterans Day!
Thursday is Veterans Day. This annual holiday is a great opportunity for us to not only honor those, past and present, who have served our country but to teach our students the importance of respect, honor, and service. While we are unable to hold our usual Veterans Day program this year, we are planning for a virtual program that will be shared with our students and larger school community. We hope you will take the time to view. #ReImagine #WholeChild

Daylight Savings: The Importance of Sleep
As part of our school's #WholeChild mission, our school works to advocate and support the importance of a physically healthy child. This weekend, families across America will turn their clocks back one hour. This shift can make it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep for the recommended 8 or more hours each night, leading to fatigue, distraction and stress. Check out these science-backed tips for a good night's sleep as the seasons change.
- Preschoolers (ages 3–5): 10–13 hours (including naps)
- School age children (ages 6–12): 9–12 hours
- Teenagers (ages 13–18): 8–10 hours
Insufficient sleep can impact students’ concentration and ability to retain information. Sleep is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle and supports success in school. #WholeChild

CLICK HERE to check out our school's classroom projects!
Supporting a DonorsChoose project is super easy...
1) Find a classroom project that inspires you and give as little as $1. We're a public charity, so your donation is tax-deductible.
2) When a project is fully funded, DonorsChoose will purchase all the requested items and ship them directly to the school.
3) When funded, every donor gets a thank-you letter from the teacher, photos from the classroom, and a report of how each dollar was spent.
ThankFULL Food Drive
The Mission Backpack Program, sponsored by First Baptist Church and Loaves & Fishes, provides nutritious, non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food to children to ensure they get enough food on weekends and holidays to avoid hunger when they can’t depend on school meals. Did you know several of our own Sterling students benefit from this wonderful program?
We want to make sure the children in our community have ThankFULL tummies this holiday season. Our school is partnering with Mission Backpack to host a Food Drive from November 8-18th. Students are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to their homeroom classes. Donations will be collected and counted by classroom.
The top two elementary homerooms and the top middle school homeroom that donate the most food will be awarded special prizes by Dr. Patterson, Mr. Murphy, and Ms. Harris. Stay tuned for more details on social media!

Sterling School is a U.S. News Best Elementary AND Middle School
Congratulations to Sterling School!
Recently, U.S. News & World Report published their first-ever rankings of public elementary and middle schools. Our school placed among the top 30% of elementary and middle schools in the state of South Carolina, making us BOTH a U.S. News Best Elementary School AND a Best Middle School. Of the 80,000 U.S. public elementary and middle schools that were evaluated by U.S. News, barely 1,000 earned both awards. Our middle school is the highest ranked program in the state and our elementary program is ranked sixteenth.
