The Weekly Howl
St. Francis Catholic School - Sunday, March 21st
Dear Parents & Friends of SFCS,
We had a great week at SFCS! Students enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick's Day and having another Spirit Day! Next week we will be concluding the 3rd Quarter. Report Cards will be emailed home on Tuesday, March 30th.
Right now we currently are accepting applications for students and families new to SFCS. We had a wonderful response for re-registration with 99% of our students returning to SFCS for the 2021 - 2022 school year. We have already accepted 19 new students. Current we have 214 students registered to attend SFCS next year. We have 4 classes that are at capacity and have waiting lists. While this is great news we still have openings in the other 6 grades. Thank you everyone for spreading the word about our wonderful school in the community!!!
We understand that this past week was difficult with the time change and that traffic sometimes causes issues in the morning. But we have seen an increase in students being late to school. Help us have your child start their school day off on the right foot by being on time. Also please be aware of our school's policy regarding truancy. If a student is late more than 15 times then an administrative fee of $10 will be applied to your FACTS account per tardy. Students may enter the school beginning at 7:30am and the school day begins at 8:00am. Thank you for having your child arrive on time.
Financial Aid Applications for the 2021 -2022 for students registered to attend SFCS are due by May 1st. If you want to apply then please click the following link to complete your Financial Aid Application. Assistance amounts will be communicated in May for those families that applied by May 1st. Financial Aid is available to students who are registered and active parishioners of St. Francis by the Sea and Holy Family. https://online.factsmgt.com/signin/3SBY3
I hope everyone has a wonderful remainder to the weekend! Also don't forget that next Sunday is Palm Sunday!
Sincerely in Christ,
Brian Pope
Principal

Prekindergarten
Kindergarten
Kindergarten had a week full of fun and learning! St. Patrick’s Day led them into learning that Jesus never gives up on us and always welcomes us back to Him, just like St. Patrick found his way back to Jesus. They had so much fun with Shamrock art painting and STEM/STREAM projects. Kindergarten stretched their brains as they tried to figure out how to make a rainbow from a pipe cleaner, 18 Fruit Loops and 2 giant marshmallows. The students first had to make a picture plan, then they “bought” their supplies by correctly answering Math problems. Once their Engineers got to work, they were encouraged to try-try again until they successfully built a rainbow that could stand-up. It was a great lesson in perseverance and not giving-up. Way to go Kindergarten!
2nd Grade
Did you know that "Lucky Charms" are not only magically delicious but educational, too? The Second Graders used the marshmallow treats to add, subtract, graph, estimate, compare numbers, and assign odd or even to each set for a wonderful math activity for the wearin' o' the green! Each student had completely different answers according to how many "marshmallows" of each shape was in their bag. And the best part? They had an extra bag just to eat. And while they worked, they listened to beautiful Celtic music to relax! Plus, earlier they watched a video of a young actor who showed them the true story of St. Patrick. B'Gosh and B'Gorrah, twas a fine day to celebrate the old sod!

Policy Information
REPRESENTATION
Any SFCS student-athlete may not play on or represent another school athletic program. SFCS student-athletes may not wear another school/ program athletic uniform and/or apparel during the school day or during school related events without the direct permission from the Athletic Director and/or Principal. The purpose of the above policy is in line with our Athletic Department’s mission of “providing an opportunity for ALL St. Francis Catholic School students to represent his or her school while learning the many lessons of good sportsmanship, teamwork, respect for authority, and greater understanding of the importance of consistent practice to achieve a goal.”
MISSION AND PURPOSE
At St. Francis Catholic School the academic and spiritual development of the student is of primary importance. The purpose of the St. Francis Catholic School’s Athletic Program is to support this guiding principle and the school’s mission statement by providing an opportunity for all St. Francis Catholic School students to represent his or her school while learning the many lessons of good sportsmanship, teamwork, respect for authority, and greater understanding of the importance of consistent practice to achieve a goal. St. Francis Catholic School strives to encourage and promote the active participation of all SFCS students in representing his or her own school regardless of skill level.
The athletic program is committed to providing opportunities for each individual student-athlete to reach his/her highest potential while developing the qualities and spirit of a Catholic Christian. As a Catholic school, SFCS upholds Christian values and principles. Though our athletic teams strive to win in the sense of having the best score, we recognize the real value of Catholic school athletics is realized only if it fosters the development of the human person—both in spirit and in body—by cultivating Christian character, strengthening personal integrity and responsibility, and promoting the pursuit of excellence in all endeavors.
Participation on a team is a privilege. With this privilege come responsibilities in the areas of preparation, attitude, sportsmanship, and academics. These responsibilities exist both in and out of school, both in athletic and non-athletic settings.

Warriors Flying High with the Eagle Scout - Congrats to JPII Seniors Jonathan Field & Hayden Jennings
John Paul II Catholic School is pleased and proud to announce that two of its seniors have been promoted to the rank of Eagle Scout. Jonathan Field and Hayden Jennings are members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church Troop 200. Jonathan’s project was the addition of a beach volleyball court and Hayden’s project was the addition of an outside classroom.
“I realized that our school loves volleyball - credit to our Powder Puff Volleyball Tournament and House Volleyball Tournament last year - so I made it my mission to construct an outdoor volleyball court,” said Jonathan. “As soon as we set the net up, students were playing on it. Since then, its only rest has been at night when the students aren’t at school.”
Jonathan noted that many hands, and hearts, contributed to his project and he is grateful for their help. “Bill Nimmer, Richard Jennings, and Michael Brock were instrumental in achieving a final product worthy of admiration, and I could not have done it without the continued support of my parents,” he said. “I would also like to thank other JPII students that supported my cause.”
“I thought an outdoor classroom structure was a great idea, so I went with it,” said Hayden. “Anyone who visits or attends the campus of JPII can take a trip down to the classroom and use it. It is a great alternative learning environment along with a great spot to relax.” According to Hayden, his project would not have been possible without the special support of his parents. “I had my parents help me all throughout my scouting career and so when the Eagle Scout project slowly approached, they were by my side the whole time.” Many of Hayden’s friends, fellow scouts, and JPII classmates (Sam Rembold, Aidan Tibbitt, Kristian Santos, Jonathan Field, Tripp Currier, David Shaw, Edwin Cisca, Ben Richardson, Austin McIntosh, Malone Kinard-Huisinger, and Steven Schidrich) stepped up to assist him in constructing the classroom.
Only four percent of Boy Scouts achieve Eagle Scout, the organization’s highest rank. To reach Eagle Scout, a scout must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, plan and oversee a project requiring at least 100 man-hours, and additional community service requirements.
Congratulations to these two accomplished young men. We cannot wait to see what the future has in store for them.
