Virtual Memory
RAM or ROM
Virtual Memory
Virtual Memory is something that a computer automatically turns on when the RAM is struggling with all the processes and the computer is slowing down. The RAM can't deal with all of the processes that the computer is making it do, so the virtual memory is used to temporarily hold the processes, and then gives it to the RAM to complete.
Page Files?
A page file is how the computer uses virtual memory. The page file is where the virtual memory is stored. Generally, the page file should be twice as large as the RAM. For example, if the RAM is 1Gb then the virtual memory is 2Gb.
The Benefits and Drawbacks
There is an obvious benefit to virtual memory, it can make a computer run faster, improving performance. And for anyone, this is positive. You also don't have to buy more memory and you can run larger applications while using less RAM. However this uses up more HDD (Hard Drive Disk) space.
