Principal Keener's Message...
PEAKs Scores
Last week our PEAKs Scores were announced. These 3rd - 7th grade scores from last spring, reflect student proficiency on the Alaska Standards. The analysis shows our Arctic Light students soared ahead and are some of the smartest students in our Borough. Advances in both Math and ELA were the largest for any school. Simply put, our students and staff are Rock Stars!
The goal of public education is to build a successful citizenry. This simple statement is viewed in multiple ways. We have a wide range of local people who have tweaked the Common Core filling our district curriculum with broad ideals. As educators we constantly strive and in many ways are pulled in far too many directions.
Our K-8 school started last year. The new schedule, the new Encores, the new educational programming were taken from nation-wide best educational practices. The teachers did above and beyond to teach according to these expectations and learning goals. The end product can be seen in these state scores.
Arctic Foxes are at the top. Our students soared to the front pack of 19 public elementary schools. We are aware there is always much to do. If you have ideas please share.
Congratulations to our students,
Mr. Keener
