February 2020
*IMPORTANT INFORMATION*
Yesterday, we discovered a water line leak at Mary Frank. Our Director of Facilities, and his staff spent the day working on a timeline with an external vendor to make the repair. Those repairs begin today, January 31st, at the end of the school day.
Beginning in the afternoon, AIM Water will provide and supply water coolers for Kids Club, as well as for school on Monday and Tuesday, February 3rd & 4th. Water can be used as normal with the exception of drinking. After the repair, water samples will be taken. Then, after the assurance that water standards have been restored, drinking fountain usage will resume.
Please contact me if you have any questions at cheerschop@phm.k12.in.us or (574) 272-0340.

I'm almost afraid to say this, but....haven't we had a mild winter so far!? Let's hope that trend continues through February. And, of course...we will hope the Groundhog makes his prediction in our favor. :) We also get a BONUS day this year with it being Leap Year - do something special!!
As many of you know, Miss Kuzdzal has been out ill for a few weeks. While I can't go into the details, please know that she wants very badly to return to school and continues to seek solutions to improve her health. She is not currently hospitalized, as many students have asked. We are filling her position with substitutes, and we seek to keep the people and structure as consistent as possible for our students. Mrs. Kwon (who student taught here last semester with Mrs. Horvath) has filled in many of these days and has done a great job. Please continue to keep Miss Kuzdzal in your thoughts in the coming days.
Please be reminded that parents can come to school to check the Lost & Found table before school from 7:00-7:40am or after school from 2:30-3:30pm. If you have questions, please contact our office.
More information is below, but I am SO excited for your family to join us on a Reading Adventure in the next month as we read as ONE book as ONE school: Almost Super by Marion Jensen. We are kicking off this book today, January 31st. Happy Reading!
In service of your child,
Mrs. Heerschop
One Book One School - Almost Super
January 31st - February 28th
“One book, one school” is an initiative that strives to bring together schools and families through the joy of reading. We want to provide an environment where our imaginations are set free through literature. By choosing one book, that spans various reading levels, both students and staff will come together and share thoughts, ideas, and a passion for reading.
While projects and readings will be done at home, there will also be readings and discussions taking place in the classrooms. We encourage all families to use this opportunity to come together to read and carry on discussions about the story. You can even work together on some of our projects. While the at home activities are voluntary, they offer a way for students to incorporate their creativity into the story.
So, it's time to put on some comfy slippers, grab a blanket and curl up for a great book!
Every family and staff member will be receiving a copy of this year’s book, Almost Super by Marion Jensen.
Click HERE for a one-page calendar with all activities and page numbers listed and visit the school website for additional information and links to resources, the audio recording, etc.
Happy Reading!

Attention Parents of 5th Graders!
This year has been flying by! Can you believe it's already time to start looking ahead to 6th grade & Discovery Middle School? Below are a list of dates that DMS has set aside (for students and parents) to begin to get ready for the transition to middle school. We know that thinking about this big step can cause some anxiety. Discovery Middle School students and staff do an excellent job to help ease these feelings. We encourage parents to come to the evening meeting at Mary Frank, to plan to take your student to instrument selection night, and to attend the building tour with your child. The more exposure your child has to DMS before school starts in August, the more comfortable he/she will be!
