Home of the Lightning... Learn Lead Succeed

April 2021

Message from the Principal

I'm so excited that we are moving into Spring. Teachers are eager to talk on an individual level with you during conferences, 3/31, 4/1, and 4/2.

There are 51 instructional days left in the school year. Teachers are making every minute count by making strong connections with students, focusing on the highest leverage learning goals, and administering ongoing formative assessments/progress monitoring to move learning forward at a rapid pace! We are excited to watch our students grow in the last quarter of the year. We have so much to celebrate because of your support and collaboration with us to keep accelerating student learning.

We are looking forward to being able to have more celebrations at school and continue our traditions. Moving forward we will celebrate our students of the month the first week of the month on their days here.

We want you to continue to reach out when you experience something that is tough or something you would like to celebrate so we can be a supportive resource in finding solutions. Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us.

Yelm Community Relief

Although there have been a lot of changes to our community because of COVID-19, the support our citizens and leaders show each other remains the same. We are proud to share with you the “Yelm Community Relief Fund”. This is a new, privately funded financial support opportunity established by Nicki and JW Foster, Mayor of Yelm, America's Credit Union (ACU) and TOGETHER! to provide some immediate relief to residents struggling financially during this pandemic. The purpose of this fund is to help Yelm community members pay their basic bills like, rent, utilities, phone, etc, while waiting for unemployment benefits and the CARES Act stimulus checks to arrive.

Community members may direct donations to any America’s Credit Union (ACU) branch and online at:, with the notation that it is for the “Yelm Community Relief Fund”. ACU will then provide the funds to “Together!” for distribution based on applications for assistance through this on-line form

There have been almost 100 applicants, but a lot of funds are still needed in order to help everyone in need. Any amount you can donate will make a great impact for the residents in our community. As always stay tuned and stay healthy!

PTO Recycling Programs to raise funds for Lackamas

Lackamas is going GREEN! The PTO has chosen a couple recycling programs for the school to participate in.

When: Recycle drop off will be on Monday's during lunch pick-up 11:30-1pm and at the monthly Meet and Beeps.

A recycling program that awards points per pound of recycling materials that turn into a money donation to the school once enough points are collected. We will begin by recycling juice pouches, Bunch O Ballons products and packaging, and Febreeze cartridges and packaging. Will continue all year! - The Plastic Recycling Challenge

Every year hundreds of schools across the nation compete against each other to recycle the most plastic film. In addition to providing a better understanding and appreciation for the importance of recycling, Trex will happily donate a high-performance composite bench to the winning school, and bestow honorary awards to every school that participates.

  • The challenge begins each year on America Recycles Day, November 15, and lasts until April 15
  • Winners are announced on Earth Day

Crayon recycling

Done specifically through the PTO. We will be turning all the crayons into something new to give back to students. We are accepting all kinds of crayons, broken and whole.
