The Trojan Times
Ferndale's Monthly Parent Newsletter February 2021
From the desk of Our Proud Principal
Greetings Trojan Family,
Parents and Guardians please be reminded that students are receiving live instruction 5 days a week across Guilford County Schools. Our school day begins at 9:00 am and ends at 2:15 pm. As always, please make sure your student is logging in daily, completing assignments, and participating in live instruction. We want our scholars well prepared for success. As a state, we are still preparing students to take End of Grade (EOGs) tests. EOG’s are based on the information students are learning in their classes. We don’t want our students to miss anything.

Hello Families,
Here we are in the month of February. We are 7 months into the school year. I'm beyond shocked at how fast this year has gone by. We are 4 months away from EOG’s and I know my teachers and students have been working extremely hard to meet their testing goals. As always we are here to ensure students have the opportunity to learn and grow from their experiences here at Ferndale Middle School. Remember to always show PRIDE. Continue to speak with teachers about the progress of your students. Let’s make February a GREAT one!

FEBRUARY 2021 HAPPY 2021! I hope this year finds you well. The 7th grade students have now completed the first semester and two sets of benchmarks. I am impressed with the students’ ongoing efforts to complete their weekly assignments. However, I want to encourage everyone to make all possible attempt to attend LIVE lessons. Attending LIVE lessons give teachers the opportunity to clarify misconceptions, and provide students with immediate feedback in order to support their understanding. Several challenges are still ahead of us during second semester. Still, we continue to #BEBETTER TOGETHER and together we will sort out the obstacles. To ensure everyone’s success, please, make sure your student (1) logs onto Canvas daily, (2) attends LIVE lessons and/or reviews recorded lessons daily (3) communicates his/her needs to teachers, and (4) stays connected through our Microsoft Teams called “7th Grade Trojans.” As always, if you need to contact me, text me or call me at 336-312-4119. Thank you.

Prepare your Trojan with good study habits The study skills that your student uses will help them in their current and future classes. Here are five study tips to help your Trojan succeed in remote learning · Break big assignments into small chunks. Don’t stress over big assignments. Show your Trojan how to break them down in to smaller, more manageable parts. · Estimate how long an assignment will take and plan study time accordingly. You can use a timer to see if the estimate is correct. This will allow them to make changes for future assignments. · Increase self-awareness by discussing when they do their best work. Then encourage them to do their homework and study during those times. · Turn off the television. Make sure that homework time is free from all distractions · Promote organization by creating a system to keep track of important tasks. You may want to use folders, a color-coded binder or a calendar.
