Cullman City Schools
The Week in Review - March 22, 2019
Thank You!
Thank you to everyone who voted this week to continue the strong support of education in Cullman. The CCS Family appreciates your willingness to help us provide the quality education our children deserve.
Powerful PD
WES teachers, along with teachers from Cullman County, attended OGAP Additive professional development this week.
CHS Holds "Paradise Lost" Trials
CHS English classes held their "Paradise Lost" trials this week. The proceedings were very interesting and the verdicts weren't the same across the classes. Want to watch? Select from the Cullman High School Broadcast Network links below.
Shared Writing at CCPS
The CCPS kindergarten Zebra class visited the first grade Shark class to listen to their writing. Both kindergarten and first grade students enjoyed and benefited from this experience!
Giving Students an Edge with Edgenuity
EES students have been taking advantage of a wonderful instructional tool. Edgenuity provides specific skill practice for students. These students got in a little reading skill practice this week.
Sport Shooting Club Competition
The CHS Sport Shooting Team competed in the Cedar Hill Invitational last Saturday. Griffin Barksdale won HOA and Ezra Burks won 1st in the Junior Gold Division. Congratulations to these athletes!
A Treat for Teachers
Thanks to Woodmen of the World for providing a great treat for our faculty and staff. This group has always supported CCS and CCPS. Their kindness is greatly appreciated.
West and East Join for Art Show
We appreciate everyone who came to support our art program and our students at last Friday's Art Show. Our students at East and West Elementary are very talented and creative. We are so proud of the pieces that our students created this year. CCS is so fortunate to have this opportunity to provide art instruction to our students. Mrs. McBrayer is such a great mentor for our students. She inspires our students to be so creative. It is so beneficial to our children’s development.
A Great Pairing
Mrs. Pylant's math students spent some time in Mrs. Greenlee's physics lab relating calculus application (instantaneous velocity/derivatives). Students made some great connections between the two disciplines. It is great to see this cross-curricular work!
CMS Reader's Theatre
CMS students participate in Reader’s Theater to enhance their understanding of content. According to Mrs. McGee, "Nothing is better than the accents these kids use to add dramatic effect."
Socratic Seminar and VR
CHS students in Mrs. Hartline's class joined Mrs. Boyd in the library last week for a Socratic Seminar. Their subject was "The Education of Little Tree" and the book's author Forrest (Asa Earl) Carter. There were thoughtful insights based on their research and reading. These students used the Socratic Seminar method to move their learning to the next level.
Bottom: Mrs. Johnston's English 12 students checked out Shakespearean play settings via Virtual Reality. Being able to see the places about which you have been reading helps bring meaning to the content.
Subtraction Sentences
These CCPS Elephants practiced writing some subtraction sentences to help them understand their answer.
CMS Art
These CMS 8th grade art students have been working on their individual paintings and the results are remarkable! We are so fortunate to be able to offer this experience to our students.
Google Suite Provides Student Platform
These EES 6th grade students created WWII websites using Google Sites. They had the opportunity to learn some amazing content, create a product using technology and share what they discovered with an authentic audience.

Students from WES delivered over 6,470 cans to Cullman Caring for Kids on Tuesday.
