DAS FASCHINGSFEST
For Christians around the world, the Lenten season will be soon upon us. Lent (“Fastzeit” in German) begins this year on the 26th of February - Aschermittwoch (Ash Wednesday). Before the fasting and sacrifice occurs, mayhem normally ensues. Karneval (Carnival or Mardi Gras in the U.S.) are the days that lead up to Ash Wednesday. Karneval is called Fasching or Fastnacht in Germany. This year Fasching runs 20 – 25 February. Cologne is the capital of “Faschingsfest” in Germany. Over 2 million Euros are spent each year on the celebration including over 700,000 chocolates and 300,000 flowers handed out to the crowds during the parade on “Rosenmontag”. The party before the party, however, occurs on the Thursday prior to the start of Fasching. On “Weiberfastnacht” (Fat Thursday) the tradition is for women to cut off the tie of any man who dares to wear one that day. In regions where Fasching is celebrated the most, you might witness women storming the local Rathaus (town hall) in order to cut off the mens’ ties. Watch out guys!!! “Kölle Alaaf!”

Students will Return Fully In-Person On March 15th!!!
A Message from Superintendent Dan Seegmiller
When will Weld RE-4 middle and high school students be returning to a daily, in-school schedule? This is a transition we are fully committed to and that the Centers for Disease Control and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment are both saying is possible. With that in mind, we have been actively planning for middle and high school students to fully return at the start of the new quarter on March 15.
Why are we waiting until March? Middle and high school classes this quarter were specifically scheduled to meet students’ needs in hybrid learning. Therefore, bringing them back mid-quarter would adversely affect learning for hundreds of students. We are moving forward with plans for next quarter based on having students back in the building on a daily schedule. That’s “Plan A.” There will also be a “Plan B” in place where middle and high school students remain in a hybrid model if circumstances change such as systems being overwhelmed by new virus variants.
I want to assure you that our desire is to have all of our students back in their schools on a daily schedule. That is what we are working toward. You will be hearing further information as we get closer to next quarter. We are sharing this information now so students and families can adjust their schedules accordingly.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
