Where the Adventure Begins...
Happy Friday!
We have had a wonderful week and were so happy to have all of our speech kids start this week!
Our next big event coming up is Curriculum Night on September 12th! It is probably the most important event of the year! It's an opportunity to come and listen to your child's teacher share all kinds of crucial information about what your child will be learning and how you can support them. It starts promptly at 5:30 and is a night for adults only. We hope that you will all make plans to attend!
Just a reminder for all families, that for any child this age or younger you are required to have a car seat or booster seat. For any cars without car seats or booster seats, we will not be able to release the child to you. Please be sure to have appropriate car seats or boosters in your cars by Tuesday of next week. If, for any reason, you need assistance obtaining a car seat, our counselor has resources to help! Please contact her. It is also super helpful to have their car seat on the right side of the back seat so we can load and unload your child with stepping into traffic passing through our carpool lines. Thank you!
Here is the verbiage from the Texas Department of Public Safety Website:
Front-Facing Car Seats - When children outgrow the rear-facing safety seat (minimum 2+ years), they should ride in a forward-facing safety seat as long as possible, up to the upper height or weight limit (40 – 80+ pounds) of the harnesses. Usually 4+ years old. Properly installed forward-facing in the back seat. NEVER turn forward-facing before child meets all: AGE/HEIGHT/WEIGHT requirements set by safety seat manufacturer for forward-facing.
Booster Seats - After age 4 and 40+ pounds and behavior maturity*, children can ride in a booster seat with the adult lap and shoulder belt until the adult safety belt will fit them properly (usually when the child is 10 – 12 years old).
MUST have a lap/shoulder belt to use a booster seat.*Behavior maturity required according to booster seat owner's manual
Don't forget...Monday is Labor Day so we do NOT have school! I hope everyone enjoys their three day weekend!!

Help for Hurricane Harvey Victims
The Frisco ISD Council of PTAs is working to coordinate the District’s donations through the Red Cross. FISD’s PTA leaders spent most of Monday conferring with the Red Cross and other councils to determine the best way for our staff and students to support Hurricane Harvey victims and displaced persons. The North Texas Council of PTAs are all working together to spread the word. Frisco ISD leaders request that any campus effort, even campuses without PTA groups, go through the FISD Council of PTAs. You Still Have Time!
I Want to Hear From You!!
Hey ECS Parents! I have a forum called The ECS Parent Place! I have already had several parents comment or post questions and I have responded to those! I love it!
As your child's principal, I want to make sure I keep open lines of communication with all of you! I'm hoping to hear from more of you so I can know your questions, feedback, and praise. This helps me stay better connected with you and your perspectives. It's also a good place just to see what others are asking in case you have the same question.

During the month of September I will be visiting classrooms and teaching students interpersonal skills. In the PPCD classes we will begin the Baby Doll Circle Time Curriculum. The curriculum provides activities to help build a healthy relationship with our students through quality one-on-one interactions. During each lesson, our students will use baby dolls to learn new skills. The activities will encourage self-regulation and calming skills. The goal is to help our students to disengage from stress so we may foster independence and learning.
For our Pre-K students, I have chosen the book David Goes to School by David Shannon, and I will provide an activity to challenge them to think critically about David’s decisions. The students will help sort David’s appropriate and inappropriate behaviors. Then, they will create a list of expectations to be a great student. The goal is that together we can create a safe and warm classroom environment for learning.
Interpersonal skills are basically “people skills.” Children need guidance to learn how to treat others and understand acceptable social behavior. Why is this important? It helps our kiddos to:
· Develop and maintain healthy friendships
· Initiate play with others
· Join others at play
· Learn how to appropriately resolve problems with peers
· Avoid being a victim of bullying
· Avoid bullying behavior
At ECS we take time to teach and enhance our students’ people skills to focus on what they can do. As they mature and learn more, our students will be prepared for the demands of elementary school, learn to be problem solvers, and quite simply to learn to be kind.
