Important Information for You!
Happy, Happy, Most Deserved Staff Appreciation Week!
You all deserve a 'Day at the Beach' and so much more! I hope that you enjoy the week that the PTO has put together for each and every one of you.
Monday-You Had Me at “ALOHA”! - Enjoy some letters of appreciation from your students!
Tuesday-Don’t Worry, “BEACH” Happy! - Get ready for summer with your school appropriate beach attire and enjoy a treat from Tropical Smoothie!
Wednesday-“SEAS” the Day! - Start your morning out right with some Vitamin C and enjoy some breakfast treats!
Thursday-You are “SUN”-Sational! - Enjoy a massage from Relaxation Station, a pizza lunch from Little Caesar’s, and some fun beach treats!
Friday-“BEACHING,” not Teaching! - Join your colleagues for a luau celebration during lunch.
Also don't forget about the GooseChase Challenge! Beginning on Monday at 8:00am and running through noon on Friday, we will have a GooseChase competition. This is a virtual scavenger hunt where you will get to complete challenges by taking fun pictures or videos and answering questions! The staff member who collects the most points will win a basket of books for his/her classroom! (If a non-classroom staff member wins, you’ll get a different awesome prize!) The winner will be announced at the end of the day on Friday. To play - Download the GooseChase app, register for an account, and create a username and password. Search for the “Thomson Staff Appreciation Week!” game or enter the game code: YEX15V. The password is “Thomson Staff”. You can join now, but the game will not let you submit anything until Monday.
AdvancEd District Visit
As you all are aware, a visiting team from AdvancEd will be visiting our district this week to provide feedback. On Tuesday, representatives from the team will be visiting the Thomson. The team will begin with a teacher discussion panel in the lounge at 7:45 a.m., followed by a principal interview, and then classroom observations. While I know it can be stressful to have 'outsiders' visit, really this is just an opportunity for you to all shine in the ways you do everyday and to have others see you do it!
Early Release
As you are aware, Wednesday is the last of four early release days. This early release we will focus on three topics: Effective and Powerful Use of Magnetic Letters; Mindfulness, PLC NWEA Data Digging. For the Magnetic Letter and Mindfulness piece we will meet in the gym at 1:45 p.m. Each staff member will need a magnetic whiteboard and a set of magnetic letters (parapros and non-classroom staff should get a set from a classroom teacher). Following the Staff Appreciation week schedule, I will provide 'Seas' the Day snacks for our PD.
Legislative Updates
Thursday afternoon House Bill (HB) 4206, which would forgive four additional snow days during the state of emergency declared by the Governor January 29 - February 1, was unanimously passed out of the Senate. It is anticipated that the bill will be signed by Governor Whitmer and Davison will receive four additional days of forgiveness. This means, if signed, Davison will not need to make up any days during the May intersession.
Cardinal Code Focus for the Week: Bus Safety
This week's Cardinal Code Lesson Focus for the week is the Bus Safety. I know it is difficult for us at the building level to sometimes believe that we have an impact on the behavior that goes on beyond our sight, but the reality is if we have truly built relationships with our students they do not want to let us down. Think about it, who are the people in your life that you would never want to let down? This is the impact that you can have on your students by reinforcing your behavior expectations when they are away from you. I appreciate the time you will take to intentional teach the bus safety lessons this week.
Cleaning
As you are all aware, I am very concerned with the cleanliness of our building. That said, I met with a higher up with Phil Thom last week and subsequent meetings have been held with DMBurr staff. Please be sure to share with Jim and/or me any concerns you have moving forward.
Quotes Worth Reading
In honor of our Teacher Appreciation Theme, a few 'beach' quotes to get you in the spirit...

-Laura Ingails Wilder
