What's Happening in Room 111?

I can't believe how fast this year is flying by! Here is an overview what what has been happening in Room 111.

Math: We are now working on Module 6 and have had the chance to work on coordinate planes. This is a nice way to round out the year and the students are enjoying the module so far!

ELA: We are now working in Unit 2 of Module 2A: Biodiversity in the Rainforest. In this unit we will be reading about rainforest researcher Meg Lowman and studyng her work in the rainforest of Belize. Students will also have the opportunity to observe the wildlife and plant life here in Canandaigua. As we get farther into the module, we will go outside each day and observe Suckerbrooke Creek.

Social Studies: We are now working on our Economics Unit. Information was sent home about the prototype project and we are working on building our company for Market Day. If you have any questions about the prototype project or Market Day, please let me know!

Science: We are now working on our Mixtures and Solutions Unit in Science. This is a fun way to explore different mixtures and solutions and to see how they work together.

Market Day

Market Day is on Friday, June 15th. We have been working on creating prototypes and selecting products to sell on to the other 5th grade classes on Market Day. Throughout the next two weeks we will be building a company, making the product, and advertising the product on WPES.

Summer Birthdays

Summer is just around the corner and I know that a lot of our students have summer birthdays and we would like to celebrate them as a class!! If your child has a summer birthday and would like to celebrate it in school, he or she is more than welcome to. If you decide to send in treats, please let me know what date you will be sending them in so we can plan accordingly. Thank you!!

iReady

iReady is a great way to help build your child's skills in Reading and Math. It is a computer program that contains Reading and Math lessons and assessments that help to build basic skills. During small group instruction, we cycle groups through iReady lessons. If possible, please get your child on at home to do a lesson a couple of nights a week. Here is the website that you can use to access it at home. Students know how to log on. It is the same log-on at home that they use in school.

**I will assign it for homework some nights. Students can complete iReady lessons as part of their 20 minutes of reading.
