FJVD Weekly Info

We Live the Word!

From the Principal's Desk

Dear FJVD Families,

There's lots happening at Father Doyle as we prepare for reopening! This week's newsletter contains quite a bit of information, so please be sure to carefully review the updates below:

Before and After School Care

As noted in our Reopening Plan, due to current guidelines it is necessary to restrict before and after care to only students who have registered in advance. Before and after care policies and procedures, the emergency contact form, and September calendar are attached below. If you are planning to utilize before and/or after care in September, please complete the following:

  • Review the policies and procedures and sign-off on the After Care Permission included within the policies and procedures document.
  • Fill out the attached calendar with student name(s), grade(s), and the days and times your child(ren) will attend clearly demarcated on the calendar. A reminder that you will only be charged for the time your child is in attendance at before and/or after care (i.e. if your child is ill or otherwise unable to attend, you will not be charged).
  • Complete the Emergency Contact form included below.

In order to provide adequate time to plan for staffing and facilities, all before and after care forms, including calendar dates and times for the month of September, must be returned to the school no later than Friday, August 14th. Forms can be dropped off in the main office Monday-Friday, 8am-1pm, or emailed to Mrs. Boiardi (kathyboiardi@fjvd.org). Please contact the school withy any questions or concerns.

RIDE Playbook for Schools & Reopening Plan Revisions

Today, the Rhode Island Department of Education, in coordination with the Rhode Island Department of Health, is releasing its Playbook for Schools detailing how schools will respond to potential and confirmed positive COVID-19 cases within their communities.

Now that this playbook has been developed, a revised version of the Reopening Plan that details how guidelines in the Playbook will be effectively implemented at Father Doyle will be released next week.

This revised version of the Reopening Plan will also include more information regarding hybrid learning scenarios - that is, scenarios in which some students are learning from home while their classmates learn in the classroom. This may be due to a RIDOH mandated quarantine or other family circumstances.

See below for more information regarding the Hybrid Learning Plan.

Hybrid Learning Plans

Teachers and staff are currently finalizing details of a Hybrid Learning Playbook, and a detailed Hybrid Learning Plan will be shared with families next week. This plan will include guidelines and expectations for students learning from home due to a RIDOH mandated quarantine or other family circumstances, as well as a detailed overview of hybrid learning techniques that may be implemented in the year ahead.

If you have questions about potential hybrid learning options for your child(ren), please contact Mr. Peloquin for more information.

Classroom Supply Lists

Classroom supply lists are now available for the 2020-2021 year. Keep in mind that, due to limitations on shared student supplies, students may be asked to provide more materials than in previous years. Grades PK and K will be mailing supply lists and introductory welcome letters to families. These should arrive by early next week. Grades 1-8 have posted their supply lists through their class pages on our school website. See the "Academics" tab and click on the appropriate grade level.

Orientations

Our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes will be holding orientations before the start of school. Due to current guidelines, orientations will be held in smaller groups staggered throughout the day. More information regarding dates, times, and sign-ups for time slots is included in the letters mailed to families today.

In addition, be on the lookout for additional videos on our social media pages designed to help all students adjust to now procedures and protocols from hand-washing to mask-wearing and social distancing.

Upcoming Virtual Town Hall Meetings

With guidelines continuing to evolve and RIDE planning to announce the reopening scenario (full, partial, limited, or distance learning) the week of August 17th, we are planning an additional Virtual Town Hall Meeting that week to review Reopening Plan revisions and discuss what the determined reopening scenario means specifically for our school community. A reminder that you can find a brief overview of our responses for each of the possible scenarios in our Synopsis of Reopening Scenarios attached below under Forms and Important Documents.

More information regarding upcoming virtual town halls meetings, including Zoom invitation links, will be provided in the week ahead via parent/family emails.

Updates from Around the School:

  • The re-paving of the east side parking lot is complete! It looks spectacular!
  • New mulch is being spread in the playground area.
  • Signage regarding social distancing, hand washing, and mask wearing is being developed and placed throughout the school.
  • Arden, our HVAC providers, were in the building this week cleaning and repairing our ventilation and airflow systems to ensure we have appropriate air circulation in all of our classrooms.
  • Plans are in the works for an outdoor space in which students can eat lunch or even receive instruction during the day.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns regarding the start of the school year. We are looking forward to beginning a new year together!

Have a great weekend everyone.

God bless and Go Saints!

Sincerely,

Mr. Peloquin

Aluminum Can Tab Collection

What: Aluminum can tabs are being collected

Why: To support the Ronald McDonald House in Providence

How can you help? Save can tabs and send them in to Mr. Godin’s room.

Bottle Cap Drive

We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This provides new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.

All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.

Thank you!
