Note from Ms. Moulton
Good Afternoon, Hosmer Families,
Cultural Celebration Week is this Week!
We are so excited that Cultural Celebration Week is this week. It is always one of our favorite weeks of school! Please be sure to ask your students about the assemblies that we have each day. You can also keep an eye on our social media pages (Instagram and Facebook) for photos of the many amazing things that take place each day.
Cultural Celebration Night
Families are invited to join us for Cultural Celebration Night here at Hosmer on Thursday evening from 6-7:30. Our gym will be transformed into a "World Showcase" where families can learn from one another. There is still time to sign up if you would like to host a table to represent your culture!
Please use this link to do so.
We have not yet had sign-ups to represent the following cultures and hope to have them represented:
- Brazil
- Guatemala
- India
- Nigeria
- Pakistan
- Russia
- Turkey
- United Arab Emirates
We will also hold an international potluck. Sign-up here if you would like to bring some food to share!

Important Info - Grade 5 Science MCAS on Wednesday and Thursday
Next Wednesday and Thursday are Science MCAS testing days for grade 5 students. All testing MUST be completed by the end of the day on Friday. If you know that your child will be out at any point on Wednesday or Thursday, please communicate with the classroom teacher right away so that we can have them take the test earlier.
Fifth Grade Growth and Development/Puberty Lesson
The week of May 30th, your fifth-grade student will participate in a Growth and Development/Puberty Lesson as it relates to the Massachusetts Frameworks and the National Sex Education Standards, as part of their Physical Education/Wellness curriculum. The Growth and Development lesson will discuss the physical, social, and emotional changes that begin to occur during puberty. Please click this link for more information, including a link to the video that will be used and an opt-out form.
Playground Use After School
We have had a number of students staying to play in the park after school. It is important for safety that there is adult supervision. Please also help us to reinforce the same expectations after school that we enforce during school. These include: not picking up/throwing rocks, staying within the fenced-in areas, and being kind to one another. Thank you for your support in this.
Bus Transportation Next Year
If you have a child who takes the bus or you are interested in taking the bus next year, please read the important information included below about bus registration for next year. Please note that the Hosmer bus will be limited to fewer seats than we currently have.
Parents of Kindergarten Students
Please note that there is no school for students in Kindergarten on Friday, June 2nd as we will be conducting screening for Incoming students. Please plan accordingly.
Looking ahead to Next Year
If you are moving out of Watertown, please let us know so that we can plan accordingly by contacting Janet Shaw at janet.shaw@watertown.k12.ma.us
With a grateful heart,
Erin Moulton, Principal

HOSMER BUS REGISTRATION INFORMATION
School bus transportation is available to the Hosmer School from shared pickup points throughout Watertown. Regardless of grade or distance from school, all students must register online for the bus each year. Registrations do not roll over from year to year.
Bus ridership determination is based solely on walking distance (as determined by the business office) to the school that the student attends. Please note that other criteria apply: transportation is not available to students who live less than 0.75 miles walking distance from their school, or to out-of-neighborhood students (email or call for details).
Fees:
For families who want to apply, or reapply, for the school year need-based fee waiver please use this link. The USDA Food and Nutrition Service will update the waiver form for the school year in mid-late July. To use the fee waiver for transportation (in addition to the school food program) you must check off the “permission to share with the Business Office” option. Please note that fee waivers do not affect eligibility or take priority over the distance determination. Please contact Brandon Rabbitt, the Director of School Nutrition at brandon.rabbitt@watertown.k12.ma.us , with any Free & Reduced lunch questions. There is no “transportation only” waiver – the transportation waiver only applies if Free/Reduced lunch applies.
Families whose students secure a seat will be emailed a confirmation with instructions for payment via check or money order.
Seating Capacity
We will be reducing the capacity on the Hosmer buses to 52 seats, to enhance safety.
Timeline:
All registrations received by June 12 th will be will be processed by the WPS Business Office to determine the walking distance. Registrations that are received after June 12 th will only be considered if space allows.
Depending on the number of registrations we receive, we may have a waitlist for seats even if the
registration is submitted by June 12th. Bus routes and scheduled pickup times will be determined based on actual ridership.
School Bus Routes
Only students may board the bus. Parents/caregivers are never allowed on the bus.
Bus routes and scheduled pickup times are reviewed each year and will be determined based on actual ridership. The routes are posted on the WPS Transportation page: WPS Transportation webpage early August, all families whose student has a seat on the bus will also be sent the route information.
Afternoon bus routes from all 3 elementary schools do not include the Boys & Girls Club. If Watertown PublicSchools is able to offer transportation to the Boys & Girls Club a separate online registration form will be sent to all families from their school principal in early September.
