Brain Injury Clinic Announcement
Heather Coles joins the Nazareth Faculty
We are delighted to announce that Heather Coles, MA, CCC-SLP, has joined the Nazareth College faculty. Heather is serving as Manager of the Brain Injury Clinic, an integral component of the new Wellness & Rehabilitation Institute that will formally open on September 18th. She has supervised graduate student clinicians and has taught graduate courses on an adjunct basis for several years. We are happy to welcome her full time. Her extensive experience as a medical speech-language pathologist in speech, language, voice, swallowing, and cognitive therapy will be an outstanding asset in our provision of the highest quality therapy and clinical education. We look forward to the expansion of services that will come as a direct result of Heather’s expertise.
The Brain Injury Clinic, formerly the Aphasia Clinic, has provided services to individuals with communicative and cognitive needs for more than 20 years. It was established by Dr. Shirley Szekeres, now Director of the Wellness & Rehabilitation Institute. Thousands of members of our community have received evaluative and therapeutic services through our clinical education program. Clinical services are provided by graduate students who have taken specialty coursework, and they are closely supervised by licensed and ASHA-certified speech-language pathologists.
Nazareth's Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute
The Wellness & Rehabilitation Institute provides a dynamic setting that will enhance education of the next generation of health care professionals trained to work as part of an inter-professional team that can meet the needs of people of all abilities. The Institute will support innovative clinical and research collaborations through our unique constellation of programs, including creative arts therapy (music and art), nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work, and speech-language pathology. Heather has many years of experience with such collaborations both in the acute and outpatient healthcare settings.
We look forward to ongoing opportunities to support the greater Rochester community and to working with you. Please join us at the Health and Human Services Open House on September 18th, 4:30-6:30 as we celebrate our beautiful new facility.
